AUSTIN, Texas - The Georgetown University women's golf team wrapped up play on Wednesday at the NCAA Austin Regional, hosted by the University of Texas, carding a 23-over par 311 over the final 18 holes to record a three-day score of 53-over par 917 and finish in 16th place. Play took place at the par-72, 6,341-yard University of Texas Golf Club.
Georgetown, seeded 16th of the 18 teams in the regional, finished ahead of both Missouri State (946) and No. 48 East Carolina (DNF). The Hoyas were just three strokes behind No. 30 Miami (Fla.). No. 3 Arkansas won the regional with a 26-under par 838, finishing 11 shots ahead of No. 8 Texas (849), which took second. No. 14 Florida (869), No. 19 Auburn (869), No. 35 Baylor (869) and No. 21 Oklahoma (870) rounded out the top six and will all advance to the national championship later this month.
Senior Jacquelyn Eleey (Quincy, Mass./The Taft School), playing in her final collegiate event, was under par for most of her final round and finished with a 2-over par 74. She led Georgetown for the tournament with a 10-over 226, climbing 10 strokes in the rankings to finish in a tie for 49th.
Junior Christina Parsells (Bernardsville, N.J./Kent Place) was even through her front-9, and finished the day at three-over par 75. She was 4-over par over the final 36 holes to climb 11 spots in the rankings, a day after she moved up 14 spots on Tuesday, and finished in a tie for 62nd at 13-over par 229.
Junior Alexa Popowitz (Boca Raton, Fla./St. Andrew's) carded 9-over par 81 on Wednesday to finish in a tie for 76th place at 18-pver 234. Her classmate, Pendleton Bogache (Myrtle Beach, S.C./Episcopal [Va.]), was two strokes behind her at 20-over par 236 after turning in a 12-over par 84 on the final 18 holes to tie for 80th.
Sophomore Ashley Fitzgibbons (Sammamish, Wash./Eastlake Senior) finished her tournament with a 9-over par 81 to place 85th with a three-day score of 23-over par 239.
The Hoyas wrap up a historical first season under Head Coach Kate Schanuel, winning five of the 11 tournaments they entered. The Blue & Gray won its second-consecutive BIG EAST Championship in April, and Eleey became the first women's golfer in BIG EAST history to win the conference's individual title twice (2015, 2018). She won three individual tournaments her senior year and was named the BIG EAST Player of the Year.
