WASHINGTON - With inclement weather and poor racing conditions wiping out the majority of the final day of the 2018 Intercollegiate Racing Association National Regatta at Lake Mercer on Sunday, Georgetown University's lightweight men's varsity four took part in, and won, an impromptu grand final with a .29 second victory over Princeton at nearby Lake Carnegie. The win marks the second lightweight varsity four title for the Hoyas in the last three years.
Georgetown crossed the finish line in 6:39.90 to finish .29 seconds ahead of Princeton and nearly three seconds ahead of Harvard and Navy. Columbia and Yale rounded out the competition.
In addition, GU's lightweight four without coxswain placed third in the petite final.
Only the men's and women's lightweight crews made the transition from Lake Mercer to Lake Carnegie to complete the "Rogue IRA". Georgetown's heavyweight varsity four, originally scheduled to race in Sunday's petite final, did not compete.
