WASHINGTON – Two Georgetown University rowers were named to the 72-person 2018 Under 23 National Team, as announced by USRowing on Wednesday. Senior
Artym Hayda (Providence, R.I./The Wheeler School) from the men's lightweight team and
Caroline O'Brien (Darien, Conn./Darien) from the women's lightweight squad will compete at the 2018 World Rowing Under 23 Championships July 25-29 in Poznan, Poland.
Hayda will compete in the lightweight men's double sculls, teaming with Thomas Satterthwaite from Harvard. The duo won a tight four-boat race by less than a second with a time of 6:54.86 to clinch their spot on the U23 National Team.
O'Brien will race in the lightweight women's par, partnering with Sarah Maietta from Boston University. They won their qualifying race by nearly 10 seconds with a time of 7:48.27 to solidify their trip to Poland.
The U.S. will have 22 crews competing at the five-day event. Events include the men's and women's single sculls, lightweight single sculls, double sculls, lightweight double sculls, quadruple sculls, lightweight quadruple sculls, pair, lightweight pair, four, four with coxswain, and eight.
