WASHINGTON – Georgetown University men's soccer freshman goalkeeper
Giannis Nikopolidis (Athens, Greece / Nea Genia Zirdi) was named the BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week the league office announced Monday afternoon. The No. 13 Hoyas are 1-1 on the season after opening weekend.
Nikopolidis posted a 1-0 overtime victory in his Georgetown debut at South Carolina on Friday. He managed eight saves in the contest as the Hoyas scored in the 92nd minute for the victory marking his first career shutout. In the 2-1 overtime loss at No. 18 Coastal Carolina on Sunday, Nikopolidis collected six saves.
This is the first set of awards from the league for the 2018 season, as well as the first weekly award of Nikopolidis' career.
Georgetown will return to campus for the home opener on Friday afternoon against Radford at 4 p.m. The Blue & Gray will then battle the reigning national champions, No. 1 Stanford, on Labor Day in a 1 p.m. matchup.
