No. 13 Georgetown Hosts Xavier on Saturday

WASHINGTON – The No. 13 Georgetown University men's soccer team will host the Xavier University Musketeers in a BIG EAST Conference contest on Saturday.  The opening kickoff is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Shaw Field.  The Hoyas are currently 10-1-1 on the season and 3-0-1 in league play, while the Musketeers are 5-5-1 overall and 1-3 in the BIG EAST.

  • The game will be broadcast live on the BIG EAST Digital Network with alums Dan Helfrich and Tom Greaser calling the action.  Live stats will be available at GUHoyas.com.  Fans can follow the in-game scoring on Twitter at @GUHoyasMSoccer.
  • The BIG EAST has a dedicated channel on Caffeine, www.Caffeine.tv/BEDN, where fans can find all BEDN content. About the Hoyas
  • Georgetown is coming off of a 1-0 victory at No. 25 Maryland on Monday evening at Ludwig Field.
  • The goal came in the 65th minute as a move from Zach Riviere broke it open at midfield.  He found Paul Rothrock on the left side who crossed it in before Achara redirected the ball to Derek Dodson who buried it to make it 1-0.
  • Georgetown outshot Maryland 16-5 and held a 10-3 advantage in corner kicks.  Freshman Tomas Romero had two saves in the win to get the shutout. 
  • This was Georgetown's fourth-straight shutout and the seventh of the season.
  • The Hoyas' record of 10-1-1 ties the 2012 season for best start in program history.
  • Dodson leads the team in scoring with 13 points on four goals and five assists.  He is followed by Jacob Montes with five goals for 10 points.
  • Rothrock is third with a goal and a squad-high seven assists for nine points, while sophomore Zach Riviere also sits at third on the team with four goals and one assist.
 
About the Musketeers
  • Xavier posted a 1-0 win over Creighton on Friday at the XU Soccer Complex to give the Musketeers their first conference win of the season.
  • Senior Samson Sergi scored the lone goal off a penalty kick in the 20th minute. Redshirt junior goalkeeper Matthew Rosenberg posted his fourth shutout of the season in the win.
  • The Musketeers have been ranked in the United Soccer Coaches Poll three times this season, reaching as high as 11th.  The Musketeers have also ranked in the TopDrawerSoccer.com Top 25 Poll four times this season.
 
Series with Xavier
  • The Hoyas are 4-5 all-time against the Musketeers and 3-2 at home.
  • Last year, Georgetown fell to Xavier 3-2 at Shaw Field.
  • Rio Hope-Gund scored the equalizer in the 85th minute, but Xavier scored a minute later to get the victory.
 
Alumni Weekend
  • Saturday is also men's soccer Alumni Weekend.
  • The program will be honoring the 25th anniversary of the 1994 team, which was the first in program history to earn an NCAA Tournament berth after staging a program-record 11-match win streak.
