WASHINGTON – Two Georgetown University men's soccer players earned weekly honors on Monday following a 2-0 week. Senior defender
Dylan Nealis earned Defensive Player of the Week honors, while sophomore
Giannis Nikopolidis was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll. The No.13 Hoyas are currently 11-1-1 on the season and 4-0-1 in BIG EAST Conference play.
Dylan Nealis
- The senior helped the 13th-ranked Hoyas to a two-win, two-shutout week with 1-0 victories over then-No. 25 Maryland and Xavier.
- Nealis helped protect the Georgetown net from opponent offensive efforts as he anchored a back line that held Maryland to two shots on goal and Xavier to four.
- Overall, Georgetown opponents only got off 12 total shots.
- Nealis played all but three minutes in the 2-0 week.
- This is Nealis' second player of the week award this season and the third of his career.
- The Hoyas have had three BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week awards this year.
Giannis Nikopolidis
- Nikopolidis saved four Xavier shots en route to a 1-0 shutout victory in league play on Saturday.
- It marked his third shutout of the season, and the seventh for the Hoyas in 2019.
- He is currently 6-1 on the season with a goals-against average of 0.42.
- This is his first nod to the honor roll this season and the fourth for the Blue & Gray.
