WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University softball team will travel to Queens, New York this weekend for a two-day, three-game BIG EAST series hosted by the St. John's Red Storm. The Hoyas will play a doubleheader starting at noon on Saturday and a single game on Sunday at noon. Sarah Bennett (Owings, Md. / Northern) led the squad with three home runs on the weekend and reached base in eight out of nine plate appearances. She also tallied four RBIs and scored three runs for GU. Her efforts earned her BIG EAST Player of the Week honors on Monday, her first league accolade this season.

Anna Brooks Pacha (Houston, Texas / St. John's School) recorded a season-high of 10 strikeouts, which advanced her to third on the list of most strikeouts in program history (392).

Noelle Holiday (Bear, Del. / Red Lion Christian Academy) leads the squad at the plate batting .342 (25 for 73) with a team-high of 24 RBIs and a .658 slugging percentage. Holiday and sophomore
Savannah Jones (San Rafael, Calif. / Terra Linda) tie for first on the squad with eight doubles, while Jones has a team high of three triples and a .444 on-base percentage. She and freshmen
Mae Forshey (Phoenix, Ariz. / Arcadia) have a team best of 28 hits apiece. Additionally, Bennett leads the Hoyas with six home runs.
The Red Storm is 13-15 on the season and finished with a winning record of 2-1 last weekend against Providence. The Johnnies also played a midweek game against Stony Brook on Wednesday night and fell 25-6. Marissa Rizzi leads the squad batting .427 at the plate (35 for 82) and has five doubles, a triple and a team-high eight home runs to her name. She also leads with a .805 slugging percentage as well as a .500 on-base percentage. Christina Melendez leads the team with eight doubles and 23 RBIs. In the circle, Madison Morris has a 3.21 ERA and has tallied a league-best 107 strikeouts.
The Hoyas are 8-16 all-time against the Red Storm and went 1-2 in last year's three-game series at Nats Youth Academy. In the victory against the Johnnies last season, Jones hit a walk-off grand slam in the bottom of the seventh to earn the 9-5 victory. Pacha also recorded a career-high 14 strikeouts in the same game.
Following this weekend, the Blue & Gray will welcome DePaul on April 6-7 at Nats Youth Academy for a three-game series.
