Baseball Hosts Rider for BIG EAST Bye Week

WASHINGTON – After an eight-game road trip, the Georgetown University baseball team returns home to Shirley Povich Field to host Rider in its BIG EAST bye week. Weather has forced a change in the weekend schedule as Friday evening's series opener has been cancelled and the two teams will now play a doubleheader on Saturday, beginning at noon. Live stats and a video stream for both games will be available at GUHoyas.com.

On Monday, senior right-handed pitcher Jack Cushing (Flower Mound, Texas / Marcus) was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll for his efforts in last Saturday's doubleheader sweep over Villanova. Cushing fired his first career complete game in the second contest with six strikeouts as the Hoyas won by a 4-2 score to win the series. He did not allow a hit until there were two outs in the fifth inning and gave up just two runs on five hits. He struck out six, becoming just the sixth Hoya in program history to reach 200 in his career and jumped over Brian O'Hare ('96) and Michael Gaggioli ('08) for fourth all-time in GU history with the 204 strikeouts.

For the season, Eddie McCabe (Norwalk, Conn. / Conn.) leads the Hoyas with a .333 (45 for 135) batting average and is tied for the team lead with 19 RBIs. Kyle Ruedisili (Jupiter, Fla. / The Benjamin School / Washington and Lee University) is tied with McCabe with 19 RBIs while owning team highs of six home runs, 12 doubles, 28 runs scored, 10 stolen bases and a .548 slugging percentage. Ryan M. Davis (Danville, Calif. / San Ramon Valley) has hit two home runs and is second on the squad with 11 doubles and six stolen bases. As a team, Georgetown is batting .256 and has already surpassed last year's total with 24 home runs. The pitching staff has a 5.42 team ERA.

Rider enters Saturday's doubleheader with a 13-23 overall record, after an 11-0 loss at Princeton on Wednesday, and is sitting at 4-9 in the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC). Riley Mihalik leads the Broncs with a .321 (42 for 131) batting average and is also the team leader with eight home runs and 30 RBIs. Jack Peterson and Kyle Johnson each have a team-high 12 doubles while Richie Tecco leads Rider with nine stolen bases. As a team, the Broncs are hitting .257 while the pitching staff owns a 5.64 ERA.
