WASHINGTON– The Georgetown University women's openweight rowing team sent three boats to compete over the weekend in the Lake Wheeler Invitational, hosted by North Carolina and Duke. Due to inclement weather on Friday, all preliminary races and finals were pushed to Saturday.
The varsity eight boat took to the water first on Saturday morning, racing in a field of three against Michigan State and Temple. The Hoyas crossed the finish line second, with a time of 6:42.558 while the Spartans took first in the prelims. The squad then competed in the second women's varsity eight final and took third, finishing behind Clemson and Central Florida.
In the women's second varsity eight event, the Hoyas finished third alongside Michigan State and Navy in the opening heats. The Blue & Gray competed again in the third final where it finished third with a time of 7:01.016, beating its preliminary time by 15 seconds. Host team UNC took first while Miami finished a close second.
The women's varsity four boat crossed the finish line in third place in the preliminary heat with a time of 7:44.584 while UNC finished in first followed by Navy. In the third final, the Hoyas picked up a third place finish, slipping to Clemson and Miami.
