WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University baseball team continues its eight-game road trip on Wednesday when it makes the quick trip to Hanover, Maryland for a midweek matchup against Coppin State. First pitch at Joe Cannon Stadium is set for 3 p.m. and live stats will be available at GUHoyas.com.
The Hoyas (8-24, 0-3 BIG EAST) are coming off a tough weekend, falling in all three games at Xavier to open BIG EAST play.
Alex Rosen (Newport Beach, Calif. / Corona Del Mar) and
Matt Stone (Westport, Conn / Staples) both hit their first career home runs over the weekend and
Jack Cushing (Flower Mound, Texas / Marcus) fired 7.2 shutout innings on Sunday with seven strikeouts.
For the season,
Eddie McCabe (Norwalk, Conn. / Conn.) leads the Hoyas with a .299 (35 for 117) batting average and is tied for the team lead with 17 RBIs.
Kyle Ruedisili (Jupiter, Fla. / The Benjamin School / Washington and Lee University) has team highs of five home runs, 10 doubles, 26 runs scored and eight stolen bases and is tied with McCabe with 17 RBIs.
Ryan M. Davis (Danville, Calif. / San Ramon Valley) has hit two home runs and is second on the squad with nine doubles and six stolen bases. As a team, Georgetown is batting .258 and has hit 22 home runs, one less than all of last season. The pitching staff has a 5.71 team ERA.
Coppin State comes into Wednesday's game with a 16-12 overall record and a 9-3 mark in MEAC action after winning two of three over the weekend against Maryland Eastern Shore. The Eagles are led by Justin Banks who is hitting .398 (35 for 88) with a team-leading five home runs and 31 RBIs as well as eight doubles. Carlos Alvarez is batting .320 (31 for 97) with 21 RBIs and Erik Crossman has a .311 (32 for 103) batting average with 23 RBIs. As a team, Coppin State is batting .282 while the pitching staff owns a 4.71 ERA
The Hoyas and Eagles met last month at Shirley Povich Field and GU rode a six-run first inning to a 14-5 victory in the team's home opener.
Ryan Weisenberg (Parkland, Fla. / San Ramon Valley [Calif.]) had three hits, including a pair of doubles, two RBIs and scored three runs to lead the offensive attack. Ruedisili had two hits and scored a pair of runs.
Michael Willis (Baltimore, Md. / Gilman) and
Freddy Achecar III (Atlanta, Ga. / Lovett School) each homered and had two RBIs, while
AJ Lotsis (Phoenixville, Pa. / Episcopal Academy) also hit a home run.
Carter Bosch (McLean, Va. / Potomac) picked up his first career win, going 5.0 innings with two strikeouts.
