WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University baseball team had a program record five student-athletes named to All-BIG EAST teams when the conference announced its postseason award winners on Wednesday. The all-conference teams were selected by the league's head coaches. Sophomore
Eddie McCabe (Norwalk, Conn. / Norwalk) highlighted the selections as he earned Georgetown's first nod to the All-BIG EAST First Team since 2017 and four Hoyas were named to the second team.
McCabe earned his first postseason honor after leading the Hoyas this season with a .345 (70 for 203) batting average and ranking second on the squad with five home runs, 32 RBIs and 35 runs scored. He ranked third in the BIG EAST in hits and fourth in batting average. He had a team-high 22 multi-hit games, including a pair of four-hit performances. In conference play, McCabe batted .344 (22 for 64) with four home runs and 11 RBIs. He finished the season in style, earning his second career BIG EAST Honor Roll selection as he had three multi-hit efforts in GU's series victory over Butler, including going 4 for 4 with his first career multi-home run game, scoring three runs and driving in four, in the season finale.
Senior
Ryan Weisenberg (Parkland, Fla. / San Ramon Valley [Calif.]) was named to the All-BIG EAST Second Team for the second time in his career, as he earned the same recognition following the 2017 season. As a senior, Weisenberg ranked second on the team with a .289 batting average and 52 hits while ranking third with 13 doubles, 22 RBIs and 26 runs scored. He was second on the team with 14 multi-hit games, including a pair of three-hit performances where he hit two doubles. In the season finale, against Butler, Weisenberg became the 37th member of Georgetown's 150-hit club with a first inning single.
Kyle Ruedisili (Jupiter, Fla. / The Benjamin School / Washington and Lee University) made an immediate impact after transferring to the Hilltop as a graduate student. He appeared in 53 of the team's 56 games and led the Hoyas with 13 home runs, 16 doubles, 43 runs scored, 34 RBIs and 15 stolen bases. His 13 home runs tied for third in program history and the most by a Hoya since 2005. Ruedisili hit six home runs in conference play, one in each series, to lead the league and he ranked second in overall homers. His .575 slugging percentage ranked fourth in the BIG EAST while he was also second in doubles, sixth in runs scored and eight in RBIs. He was third on the Hoyas with 12 multi-hit games and led the way with eight multi-RBI games, including a five-RBI performance against Sacred Heart.
Jack Cushing (Flower Mound, Texas / Marcus) earned his first All-BIG EAST selection after capping off a tremendous career with his best season in a Hoya uniform. The senior led the pitching staff with a 3.06 ERA and 87 strikeouts, while tying for the team lead with four wins and ranking second with 79.1 innings pitched. His 87 strikeouts rank second in Georgetown's single season and, in his final start of his career, Cushing set the career record with 236 strikeouts. He also finished his career in the program's top 10 in wins (15), strikeouts per nine innings (7.47), innings pitched (284.1) and games started (46). Cushing also set the program's single game strikeout record with 16 against Mount St. Mary's earlier this season.
Jeremiah Burke (Delmar, N.Y. / Bethlehem Central / La Salle Institute) had a breakout season in 2019, finishing with a 4.66 ERA and 86 strikeouts in a team-high 85.0 innings pitched. His 86 strikeouts are the third most in Georgetown's single season history. Burke threw a complete game against Ball State in March and registered three games with at least 10 strikeouts. He fanned 10 against Sacred Heart in March and matched that in his final start of the season against Butler. He set a career high with 12 strikeouts in the series opener against St. John's, helping lead the Hoyas to their first ever sweep of the Red Storm.
The Hoyas concluded the 2019 season with a 22-34 overall record and a 7-11 mark in BIG EAST play, finishing in fifth place, just one game out of a postseason berth.
