No. 7 Hoyas Kick Off 2019 Season Against James Madison and NC State

WASHINGTON – The No. 7 Georgetown University women's soccer team will open up the 2019 season on Thursday, Aug. 22 in Harrisonburg, Virginia against the James Madison Dukes and then will play in its home opener on Sunday, Aug. 25 at Shaw Field against the No. 21 North Carolina State Wolfpack. Kickoff at JMU is slated for 7 p.m. at Sentara Park and Sunday's game against NC State is scheduled for 1 p.m.

Both contests will have live stats and live streams available. Thursday's game will be broadcast live through MadiZONE with Curt Dudley doing the play-by-play and Dave Lombardo as the analyst. Monika Moore will be calling the action on Sunday.
 

About the Hoyas

-       Georgetown was ranked No. 7 in the United Soccer Coaches Preseason Poll

-       GU finished last season 21-1-3, setting the program record with most wins in a season

-       The Hoyas were selected as the BIG EAST Preseason favorite for the third-straight year, claiming all nine first-place votes

-       Senior Meaghan Nally (Herndon, Va. / South Lakes) was named the BIG EAST Preseason Defensive Player of the Year for the second year in a row

-       Nally and fellow senior Paula Germino-Watnick (Chevy Chase, Md. / Bethesda-Chevy Chase) were unanimously selected to the Preseason All-BIG EAST Team while         junior Kelly Ann Livingstone (Glen Ridge, N.J. / Glen Ridge) also earned a spot on the list

-       Nally and Germino-Watnick were named to the 2019 MAC Hermann Trophy Watch List

-       Germino-Watnick returns this season after ranking third on the team last year with 22 points from eight goals and six assists

-       Graduate student Amanda Carolan (Bayville, N.J. / Central Regional) returns for her fifth year and finished the 2018 season with 12 points from four goals and four assists

-       Nally, Livingstone and sophomore Jenna Royson (Toms River, N.J. / Toms River North) return as the key pieces to the Hoya defense that allowed only 10 goals from their         opponents last season and boasted the nation's second best team GAA (.384)

About the Opponent: James Madison

-       The Dukes finished the 2018 season with an overall record of 11-8-1

-       JMU claimed the Colonial Athletic Association (CAA) regular season title and made it to the league's championship for the third time in six years, falling to Hofstra 2-0 in         the finals

-       The squad is returning all but one starter from 2018

-       Senior Haley Crawford was named the CAA Preseason Offensive Player of the Year and finished the 2018 campaign with nine goals and six assists for 24 points

-       Junior Ginger Deel earned a spot on the Preseason All-CAA Team and ranked second on the team last season with 20 points off of seven goals and six assists

-       The Dukes were picked to finish second in the conference and earned three first-place votes

About the Opponent: NC State

-       The Wolfpack received a No. 21 ranking in the United Soccer Coaches Preseason Poll

-       They finished 2018 with an overall record of 11-7-4

-       NC State will kick off the 2019 season on Thursday against No. 15 South Carolina in Columbia, South Carolina

-       The squad fell in the third round of the 2018 NCAA Tournament to No. 4-seeded UCLA 5-0

-       Senior Tzarria King was named to the Preseason All-ACC Team and finished last season with 26 points from 10 goals and six assists

-       The Wolfpack was picked to finish sixth in the league's Preseason Coaches Poll

Series History

Thursday will be the 12th meeting between JMU and Georgetown. The last meeting was during the 2015 season opener when the Hoyas defeated the Dukes 4-3. GU leads the all-time series 7-3-1.
 

Sunday's match will be the third meeting between NC State and Georgetown. The last meeting was during the 2014 campaign when the Hoyas shut out the Wolfpack 6-0. GU leads the all-time series 2-0-0
