WASHINGTON – Graduate student Amanda Carolan and sophomore Jenna Royson were recognized by the BIG EAST this week after leading the No. 15 Georgetown women's soccer team to a perfect 2-0-0 record on the week. Carolan was named the BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week while Royson earned a spot on the Weekly Honor Roll.
Carolan was the BIG EAST's points leader last week despite facing a pair of formidable opponents. The forward scored the overtime game winner against Ivy League-favorite Princeton on Thursday, while also assisting on Royson's 77th-minute game-tying score. Against No. 23 West Virginia on Sunday, Carolan capped GU's scoring in the 83rd minute as the Blue & Gray picked up a 3-0 victory. In the 2-0 week for Georgetown, Carolan totaled five points and four shots.
Additionally, Carolan's goal on Sunday bumped her up to No. 7 on the all-time list at Georgetown with 27 career goals, as well as No. 10 on the all-time list with 64 total points.
Royson assisted on both sides of the field for the Hoyas last week. She scored the game-tying goal against the Tigers to force the teams into overtime and put GU on the board on Sunday against WVU. Royson also led the Hoya defense which blanked the Mountaineers. GU outshot both opponents by a combined 31-18 margin, including 13-7 on target.
This is Carolan's second nod to the league's honors this season and Royson first-ever conference recognition. This is also GU's fourth-straight week receiving weekly honors.
The Blue & Gray will wrap up nonconference play on Friday, September 20 to face the Ohio Bobcats at 4 p.m. at Shaw Field. Live stats and a live stream with Monika Moore calling the action will be available at GUHoyas.com.
