No. 19/20 Georgetown Matches Up Against No. 12/16 Penn on Saturday

WASHINGTON – The No. 19/20 Georgetown University women's lacrosse squad will host the No. 12/16 University of Pennsylvania Quakers on Saturday at Cooper Field at 1 p.m.  The Hoyas are currently 1-0 on the year after defeating St. Joseph's 19-5 last weekend in the season opener.

About the Hoyas
  • Georgetown is coming off of a 19-5 victory on Saturday in the season opener against the Saint Joseph's.
  • Senior Michaela Bruno led the way with four goals, while classmate Natalia Lynch managed three as well as an assist and nine draw controls.
  • Junior Cameron McGee tallied the hat trick to go along with two goals and an assist by sophomore Ali Diamond as well as a pair of scores from junior Caroline Frock.
  • Senior Emily Ehle had a goal and a squad-best two assists in the game.
  • Georgetown outshot St. Joseph's 29-14, and pulled in 18 draw controls to SJU's six.
  • GU forced 19 turnovers while committing 16. 
  • In the cage, senior Micheline DiNardo picked up the win with two saves on the afternoon.
  • Also on the defensive end, junior Wynne Whitley tallied four caused turnovers for the game.
  • For their efforts in the contest, Lynch was named the BIG EAST Midfielder of the Week, while senior Katie Hudson earned BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week for her three ground balls, three draw controls and a caused turnover as well as a goal.
 
About the Quakers
  • Penn will open the season on Saturday at Georgetown.
  • The squad was selected second in the Ivy League Preseason Poll with 112 points and three first-place votes to sit behind Princeton at No. 1.
  • Penn heads into 2020 returning seven of last season's eight All-Ivy honorees—including unanimous first team selections Erin Barry and Gabby Rosenzweig—as well as the entirety of their scoring output.
 
Series Information
  • Saturday will be a rematch of last year's NCAA First Round thriller in New York.
  • The Hoyas came out on top 13-12 in double overtime as Taylor Gebhardt scored the game winner.
  • Georgetown is 2-6 all-time against the Quakers and 0-2 at home.
  • Last year, the squads split as Penn took the regular season meeting in Pennsylvania by a score of 8-7 but the Hoyas came back for the win in the tournament.
