Georgetown Closes Out the Regular Season at Providence and Creighton

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University women's basketball team will close out regular season play on the road this weekend.  The squad will travel to Providence College on Friday evening for a 7 p.m. matchup with the Friars before heading to Omaha, Nebraska on Sunday to face the Creighton University Bluejays at 2 p.m. ET.

About the Hoyas
  • The Hoyas (5-22, 2-14 BIG EAST) lost a pair of contests last weekend in the home season finale.
  • On Friday, the squad fell to then-No. 12/13 DePaul 87-69.
  • Georgetown had four players in double figures as graduate student Taylor Barnes led the way with 13 points.
  • Senior Anita Kelava added 10 points and four blocks, while sophomore Cassandra Gordon tallied 10 and classmate Tayanna Jones scored nine points and pulled down a squad-high 12 rebounds.
  • Georgetown shot 47 percent from the field hitting 26-of-55 shots while the Blue Demons managed 42 percent hitting 32-of-76.
  • The Blue & Gray was outrebounded 48-30 and committed 20 turnovers to DePaul's 16.
  • Georgetown dropped a 76-56 decision to Marquette on Sunday for Senior Day.
  • Barnes led the way with 15 points, while classmate Brianna Jones added 11 as the two Hoyas in double figures. Senior Anita Kelava managed four points and a squad-best six rebounds.
  • Georgetown shot 36 percent from the field, while the Golden Eagles managed 56 percent and the Blue & Gray was outrebounded 39-27.
  • GU committed just nine turnovers in the game.
  • Barnes leads the team with 12.5 ppg as the lone Hoya averaging in double figures. Kelava has been tough on the glass averaging 7.4 rpg.
 
About the Friars
  • Providence is 11-17 overall and 2-14 in league play to be in a three-way tie with the Hoyas and Xavier.
  • The squad is led by Mary Baskerville who is the lone Friar averaging double figures with 12.5 ppg to her credit.
 
Providence Series
  • Georgetown is 37-29 all-time against the Friars and 16-16 on the road.
  • Earlier this season, GU picked up the 62-53 victory at home as Barnes and Tayanna Jones both had 14 points in the win.
  • The last meeting at Alumni Hall during the regular season was a 68-52 victory, the squads met three times last year with the Hoyas picking up the 53-46 victory in the WNIT.
  • The Blue & Gray has won the past 10 meetings between the squads.
 
About the Bluejays
  • Creighton is 17-10 overall and 9-7 in BIG EAST play to sit in a three-team tie for fifth place.
  • The squad went 1-1 last weekend on the road falling to Butler (76-61) but downing Xavier (76-62) on Sunday.
  • The Bluejays have four players averaging in double digits with Jaylyn Agnew leading the way with 19.9 ppg.                 
 
Creighton Series
  • The Hoyas are 4-9 all-time against the Bluejays and 1-5 on the road.
  • Earlier this season, GU fell at home 65-56 to begin league play.
  • The last meeting at D.J. Sokol Arena was a 65-38 loss a season ago.
