WASHINGTON – Junior Will Sands was named the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week on Monday when the BIG EAST Conference announced its weekly awards. This is Sand's first honor of the season for the 10-0 Hoyas who are currently ranked No. 1 in both of the national polls and 4-0 in BIG EAST play.

BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week

• Sands helped the No. 1/1 Hoyas to a 2-0-0 week in BIG EAST play as the Blue and Gray move into a tie for first in the league standings.
• Sands played the first 62 minutes in a 4-2 victory at Seton Hall in midweek action, scoring the Hoyas third goal of the contest at 37:00 and helping hold the Pirates to four total shots while he was on the pitch. When Sands exited the game, GU had 4-0 lead.
• On Saturday, Sands played all 90 minutes of a 1-0 shutout win over Butler. Sands and the Georgetown defense held the Bulldogs to seven total shots, two on goal.
• Sands has one goal and two assists this season appearing in all 10 games for the Hoyas.
• This is his first-career BIG EAST weekly award and the fifth for the Hoyas this season as well as the third defensive honor.
