WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University field hockey team is on the road this weekend to face off against No. 17 Old Dominion University and Virginia Commonwealth University. The Hoyas match up against Old Dominion on Friday at 1 p.m. and will take on VCU on Sunday at 2 p.m.
Hoyas Scouting Report
· Senior goalkeeper
Ciara Weets was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll after her performances last weekend. Weets totaled nine saves in a 2-0 weekend, and she posted a shutout against Temple University on Friday in Georgetown's first BIG EAST win of the season.
· Freshman
Sophie Towne has scored in each of the last two games for the Hoyas, and she ties freshman
Emma van der Veen for a team-high three goals on the season.
· The Hoyas have won three straight games and have only allowed two goals during that span.
Old Dominion Scouting Report
· The Monarchs rank second in the BIG EAST behind No. 10 Liberty University, posting a 2-1 conference record so far this season.
· Old Dominion is 8-2 on the year and has won its last four contests.
· Sophomore forward Marlon de Bruijne was named BIG EAST Offensive Player of the week for the second-consecutive this week. de Bruijne had three goals and three assists in her two games last week and has 10 goals this season.
VCU Scouting Report
· VCU currently holds a 7-3 record, including three-consecutive shutout wins. The Rams host Davidson College on Saturday before the Hoyas arrive for Sunday's matchup.
· Three VCU field hockey players have been named A-10 Players of the Week this season: junior Lonica McKinney, graduate student Maite Sturm and senior Janne Wetzel. The trio has totaled 14 goals and eight assists so far this year.
