Women’s Basketball Begins BIG EAST play at Creighton and Providence

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University women's basketball team will open BIG EAST Conference play this weekend as the squad travels to Creighton University and Providence College. The Hoyas will face the Bluejays on Friday at 1 p.m. ET at the CHI Health Center. On Sunday, GU will travel to Rhode Island to play the Friars at Alumni Hall in a 1 p.m. matchup.

About the Hoyas
  • Georgetown (3-3) is coming off of a tough 49-47 loss to the Temple Owls on Tuesday at McDonough Arena. The Hoyas led the entire way until the last minute when the Owls made a comeback.
  • Sophomore Kelsey Ransom led the way with 15 points as the lone Hoya in double figures.
  • Junior Graceann Bennett was active on the glass with a squad-best 10 rebounds to go along with eight points.
  • The Hoyas shot 30.2 percent (16-53) from the field, GU allowed just 29.6 percent (16-54) shooting by the Owls.
  • Georgetown outrebounded Temple 43-38, but had 17 turnovers to the Owls' 16.
  • On Monday, graduate student Milan Bolden-Morris was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll after posting 21 points, going 5-for-8 from beyond the arc to go along with two rebounds and a steal in GU's 66-55 victory over Loyola Maryland prior to Thanksgiving.
  • The Hoyas boast two players in double figures for the season as Bolden-Morris leads the way with 13.5 ppg, while Ransom is averaging 12.3 ppg.
  • GU just closed out a five-game nonconference homestand at McDonough Arena. The nonconference schedule will resume on Thursday as the Blue & Gray hosts George Washington at 7 p.m.
About the Bluejays
  • Creighton is 3-2 on the season and coming off of a 79-72 win over Northern Iowa on Saturday.
  • Sophomore Emma Ronsiek led the way in the game with 25 points.
  • Ronsiek is the offensive leader with 16.0 ppg, while reserve Morgan Maly is second on the squad with 12.0 ppg.
  • The Bluejays have won their last two games including the Northern Iowa victory as well as a 67-55 win over South Dakota State.
  • Earlier this season, CU downed Omaha 71-51.
Series History
  • The Hoyas are 4-13 all-time against the Jays and 1-7 on the road.
  • Last year, Georgetown lost all three meetings falling 65-57 in Omaha, 42-41 at McDonough Arena and 56-42 in the BIG EAST Tournament First Round.
  • The last GU victory was a 62-53 win on February 1, 2019.
  • In that game, senior Dorothy Adomako posted a double-double with 23 points and 13 rebounds.
About the Friars
  • Providence is 3-4 on the season and will face Villanova in BIG EAST action on Friday evening.
  • Wednesday began a tough stretch for the squad as the Friars will play three games over five days including a pair of BIG EAST matchups.
  • Providence boasts four players averaging in double figures as Janal Crooms leads the way with 15.1 ppg.
  • After three losses, the Friars have bounced back with a pair of victories over Monmouth (64-34) and Hartford (73-62).
Series History
  • Georgetown is 37-31 all-time against the Friars and 16-17 on the road.
  • The teams did not meet last season due to COVID-19 complications.
  • The previous season, the squads met three times as GU won the meeting at McDonough Arena (62-53), but fell at Providence (62-55) and in the BIG EAST Tournament First Round (49-46).
  • The last regular season victory in Providence was during the 2018-19 campaign when GU had the 68-52 victory, the squads met three times that year with the Hoyas picking up the 53-46 victory in the WNIT as well.
All Georgetown women's basketball home matches are currently scheduled to be played at McDonough Arena. In accordance with Washington, D.C. regulations, masks and guest registration are required for attendance at all indoor events on campus.
