WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University track & field program competed in the Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener and Bill Ward Invitational on Saturday. In total, 33 runners competed for the Blue & Gray with six athletes breaking school records or setting new PRs.
Director of Track & Field Alton McKenzie
"It's been a while since we've had the opportunity to compete indoors (last was March of 2020) so it was definitely exciting to kick off the 2021-2022 indoor season. Great start to the indoor season with school records in the 5K by
Maggie Donahue and
Andrew Jordan in Boston, and Josh Paige in the 200m in New York. Also saw several strong early season efforts with a great win in the 1,000m by
Matt Rizzo and
Maya Drayton's collegiate facility record in the 300m. Overall, I liked the energy from the team as everyone really competed and was present not just for themselves, but also for their teammates. We're looking forward to building on this meet when we return to action in January."
Assistant Coach for Track & Field Brandon Bonsey
"It certainly was a historic day in Boston with both the men's and women's 5k school records going down.
Maggie Donahue capitalized on her cross country fitness and ran a very smart, patient race.
Andrew Jordan made his Hoya debut in big fashion beating the old school record by 11 seconds. Andrew proved once again that he's one of the best distance runners in the country. We are excited to see what Andrew and Maggie can do on the track next semester."
