WASHINGTON – Georgetown's
Barrett Justema capped off an exceptional postseason run by competing against a talented field in the 3,000m steeplechase final at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championships on Saturday at Hayward Field.
"When the season begins, the goal is to have competitors still lining up for the NCAA Outdoor Championship in June. We were very fortunate to have two men and two women out in Eugene. We had senior
Charlotte Tomkinson ending her Hoya career competing in the Women's 1,500m. Though she didn't advance to the final, she capped off an amazing Hoya career by helping win two Big East Cross Country Championships and running a school-record 2:01.56 in the 800m. Her impact on the team over the past two years was immeasurable; her kind and competitive spirit will be missed, but she will always be welcomed back as an alum. All of our other NCAA Championship competitors are returning, so we hope there will be opportunities to use this opportunity as motivation to be back next year and improve on what was accomplished this season. Tinoda had a tough semifinal and competed to the best of his ability, but unfortunately, not fast enough to advance with the 10th fastest time. Takes nothing away from the amazing season he had. He will be back. What can I say about
Barrett Justema's postseason run? Making the 3K steeplechase final in her home state and creating some Hoya history in the process. So excited to have her gain the experience of competing at a National Championship, and she'll build on that for next year. Last and certainly not least, the postseason run by Jaden has been an incredible experience for me to witness, not just as his coach, but as a Hoya alum. He set lofty goals, and even with setbacks indoors due to injuries, never stopped believing it would be possible to make the regional meet and then to get into the NCAA finals. He is a pleasure to coach, and we are very happy with how the College season ended, but looking forward to so much more to come this season and beyond. A Hoya sprinter in the fastest 400m race ever run in collegiate history is nothing short of amazing. We achieved a lot as a team this season, and we're proud to continue this great legacy of Georgetown track & field. -Head Coach
