Hoyas Host Villanova in Home Finale

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University women's basketball team (1-12, 1-12 BIG EAST) will close out the home schedule on Sunday in a BIG EAST Conference matchup against the Villanova University Wildcats in McDonough Arena. The opening tip is scheduled for 2 p.m.  The game will be broadcast live on the BIG EAST Digital Network with Jeremy Huber and Monika Moore calling the action.
About the Hoyas
  • Georgetown was on the cusp, but couldn't find the answer in overtime dropping a tough 79-72 decision to the Seton Hall University Pirates Thursday morning at Walsh Gymnasium.
  • Sophomore Graceann Bennett led the way with 17 points as one of three Hoyas in double figures, she also pulled down eight boards and posted two blocks.
  • Junior Jillian Archer tallied 16 points to go along with seven boards, while freshman Kelsey Ransom had 14 points, eight rebounds and career-high 10 assists.
  • Graduate student Taylor Baur pulled down a squad-high 10 rebounds.
  • The Blue & Gray shot 50 percent (30-60) and allowed just 37.1 percent (23-62) shooting by the Pirates.
  • Georgetown outrebounded The Hall 43-30, but had 24 turnovers to SHU's 15.
  • Ransom is leading the way for the Hoyas averaging 10.9 ppg. She is followed by graduate student Milan Bolden-Morris who is averaging 10.8 ppg making two Hoyas averaging in double figures.
  • Archer has pulled down a team-best 7.6 ppg to go along with 6.5 ppg.
  • Georgetown will celebrate Senior Day on Sunday honoring Baur along with graduate managers Albert Lipscomb and Jasmine Perkins.
About the Wildcats
  • The Wildcats are 12-4 overall and 7-4 in BIG EAST play.
  • Villanova is coming off of a tough 65-57 loss at Marquette Friday evening.
  • Villanova was led by Brianna Herlihy who had 19 points, six rebounds and five assists and Maddy Siegrist who tallied a her 20th-career double-double with 18 points and 11 rebounds. 
  • Siegrist leads the the 'Cats averaging in double figures with 22.5 ppg and 10.2 rpg on the season.
  • Herlihy is second with 14.9 ppg, while Sarah Mortensen rounds out the trio with 12.6 ppg for the year.
  • Sunday will be the second of three-straight road contests for VU.

  • The Hoyas are 24-45 all-time against the Wildcats and 14-16 at home.
  • Last year Georgetown lost both meetings with the 'Cats falling 48-40 at McDonough Arena.
  • GU's last victory over Nova was a 76-67 win during the quarterfinals of the 2019 BIG EAST Tournament.
  • The last home win came during the 2018-19 season as Georgetown won by a score of 68-63.
  • The previously scheduled meeting earlier this season was postponed a few hours prior to tip due to COVID-19 contract tracing.
