Three Hoyas Earn BIG EAST Weekly Honors

WASHINGTON – The No. 2/2 Georgetown University men's soccer team had three players honored on Monday when the BIG EAST Conference announced its weekly awards. Junior Giannis Nikopolidis was named the BIG EAST Goalkeeper of the Week, while senior Rio Hope-Gund and sophomore Aidan Rocha were both tabbed for the Weekly Honor Roll. The Hoyas (5-0-2, 5-0-2 BIG EAST) used a big second-half push to defeat the Providence College Friars on Saturday.

  • Nikopolidis made eight saves for the Hoyas to preserve a 3-0 win over Providence with five of his saves coming in the first half while the score was still knotted at 0.
  • The junior has only allowed two goals in five games for a 0.42 seasonal goals-against average and made 20 saves.
  • The Providence win was his third shutout of the season.
  • His 16 career shutouts rank him fifth on Georgetown's all-time list.
  • This is Nikopolidis' first award of the season after being named to the honor roll on March 15, and it is the fourth of his career.
  • Georgetown has earned four weekly awards so far this season.
