Georgetown Garners Four Major Conference Awards; Nine Hoyas Tabbed All-BIG EAST

WASHINGTON – Nine Hoyas earned 2021 All-BIG EAST men's lacrosse honors while a trio of Hoyas collected major conference accolades by a unanimous vote, as announced by the league office on Wednesday. Jake Carraway was named the Attack Player of the Year, Owen McElroy was tabbed the Goalkeeper of the Year and TJ Haley was picked as the Freshman of the Year. In addition, Georgetown's coaches were selected as the Coaching Staff of the Year after guiding the Blue & Gray to a share of their first regular season BIG EAST title in program history.

Georgetown's nine total selections are the most for the Hoyas in BIG EAST play. The total matches the Blue & Gray's nine All-ECAC selections in 2004.

First Team All-BIG EAST honorees included Carraway, McElroy, Graham Bundy Jr., Alex Mazzone and James Reilly. Bundy, Carraway, Mazzone and McElroy were all unanimous selections. Georgetown's five players on the first team are a school record since BIG EAST play began in 2010.

Picking up spots on the Second Team All-BIG EAST squad were Haley, Zachary Geddes, Dylan Hess and Gibson Smith. Haley and Hess are the only freshmen to earn All-BIG EAST honors while Smith has been named all-conference every season during his time on the Hilltop.

Georgetown's coaching staff, led by Kevin Warne in his ninth season on the Hilltop, earned staff of the year for the third time after also being recognized in 2015 and 2018. With Associate Head Coach Michael Phipps, Assistant Coach David Shriver and Volunteer Assistant Jack Rowlett, the Hoyas won 10 regular season games for the 13th time in program history and earned their first BIG EAST regular season crown. As a team, Georgetown led the nation in scoring defense (7.50) and clearing percentage (.914), was second in scoring margin (+6.25) and assists per game (10.50) while also posting top-10 statistics in man-down defense (third - .788), points per game (fifth – 24.25) and caused turnovers per game (ninth – 9.17).
