WASHINGTON – Georgetown University Baseball Head Coach
Edwin Thompson has announced the addition of
Brock Keener to the coaching staff. Keener will serve as GU's volunteer assistant coach and work with the team's catchers and assist with the hitters.
"Brock is a great addition to our organization," said Thompson. "He played and coached at the University of Michigan, advancing to the 2019 national championship game. Then he helped lead Army this past spring to the NCAA regional in Lubbock. He has the postseason experience we're looking for and will help develop our catchers while working with our hitters. He has a great perspective of our mission in developing well-rounded student-athletes and assisting our players reach their full potential. I am excited to have him on the Hilltop."
Keener arrives at the Hilltop after spending the last two seasons at Army where he was the Black Knights' volunteer assistant during the 2020 season and an assistant coach and recruiting coordinator in 2021. He helped lead Army to the 2021 Patriot League Championship and a berth in the NCAA Tournament. He mentored the conference's Rookie of the Year and Defensive Player of the Year and seven student-athletes were selected to postseason All-Patriot League teams. The Black Knights led the Patriot League in both hits (484) and runs scored (328) in 2021.
Prior to Army, Keener was a student assistant coach at Michigan during the 2019 season, helping lead the Wolverines to the program's eighth trip to the NCAA College World Series and its third-ever trip to the CWS Finals, finishing as the national runner-up. Michigan was fourth in the nation in doubles (150), and seventh in total hits (685), eighth in walks (354) and 10th in runs scored (487). Additionally, Michigan hitters led the Big Ten in batting average, on-base percentage, stolen bases, runs scored, doubles and walks.
Keener has also served as the head coach of the South Florida Sailfish in the Collegiate League of the Palm Beaches, a summer collegiate league.
As a student-athlete, Keener spent two seasons (2017-18) in a Michigan uniform as a catcher and infielder. He played in 50 career games with 35 starts for the Wolverines, batting .262 with 22 RBIs. Prior to Michigan, he played at Alvin Community College.
