WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University Baseball team released its 2022 schedule, presented by MedStar Health, as announced by Head Coach
Edwin Thompson on Monday. The Hoyas will play 28 home games at three new host locations as well as Shirley Povich Field while adding 10 nonconference games against 2021 NCAA Tournament teams.
GU will square off with seven teams ranked or receiving votes in the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper Preseason Top 50 poll, including top-25 matchups with No. 24 Maryland and No. 25 North Carolina.
"When players come to Georgetown, they want to be challenged on and off the field," Head Coach Thompson said. "Our schedule is definitely going to challenge them and help prepare our team for BIG EAST play. I am excited to start competing on February 18."
NONCONFERENCE SERIES
- The Hoyas will open the 2022 season in North Carolina (Feb. 18-20) against 2021 NCAA Regional competitor Rider twice, Wake Forest and Lafayette.
- Georgetown will square off with its second NCAA Regional team the following weekend with a three-game set at 2021 MEAC Champion Norfolk State (Feb. 14-16).
- The Blue & Gray will take on Massachusetts in a three-game series with the Minutemen at the Washington Nationals Youth Baseball Academy (March 4-6).
- GU will face Maryland and Cornell in a home-and-home series with the first two games at Bob Smith Stadium (March 11-12) followed by two at Povich Field (March 13). The Hoyas will also split their next weekend series with Mount St. Mary's, playing a doubleheader in Emmitsburg, Virginia (March 19) before one contest at Povich the next day.
- The Hoyas will take on Virginia Military Institute at Povich Field on March 25-26 before heading to Prince George's Stadium for the series finale on March 27.
2022 BIG EAST PLAY
- The Blue & Gray will open BIG EAST play against Villanova (April 1-3) and will welcome Xavier (April 22-24) to Regency Furniture Stadium, home of the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs.
- Georgetown will also square off with BE Champion UConn (May 19-21) in the DMV area with the location to be determined.
- The series against the UConn Huskies will feature Senior Day on Saturday, May 20.
- The Hoyas will also face Seton Hall (April 29-May 1) at Prince George's Stadium in Bowie, Maryland, home of Baltimore Orioles' Double-A Affiliate Bowie Bay Sox.
- Georgetown will hit the road for three BIG EAST series, including trips to Creighton (April 8-10), Butler (April 14-16) and St. John's (May 13-15).
MIDWEEK ACTION
- GU will play 15 midweek games in 2022, including four home-and-home series.
- Georgetown will head to Navy on Feb. 22 before its May 4 matchup at Shirley Povich Field.
- The Blue & Gray will take on UMBC in its home opener on March 1 before going to Baltimore on April 12.
- The Hoyas will make the trip to Arthur W. Perdue Stadium, home of Orioles' Low-A affiliate Delmarva Shorebirds in Salisbury, Maryland to take on Maryland Eastern Shore on March 2 before hosting the Hawks on April 6.
- GU will head to Chapel Hill for a March 9 contest against 2021 NCAA Regional squad North Carolina before its matchup at George Mason the following week (March 16).
- After facing Coppin State at Povich Field (March 23), Georgetown will take on DC rival George Washington for the first of three season meetings (March 29) on the road.
- The Hoyas will head to Charlottesville to face NCAA Super Regional qualifier Virginia (April 20), who lost to eventual 2021 National Champion Mississippi State.
- In between its final two matchups with GW (April 26, May 17), the Hoyas will square off with Maryland at Smith Stadium (May 3).
