Hoyas Open the 2022 Season at American University

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown women's lacrosse team will open the 2022 campaign at American University on Saturday in a 1 p.m. crosstown matchup. Live stats will be available at GUHoyas.com.
 

About the Hoyas

  • Senior midfielder Annabelle Albert and sophomore attacker Kylie Hazen were both named Preseason All-BIG EAST.  Hazen was a unanimous selection and this is the first time she  has been selected as a member of the preseason team.

  • Last season, Hazen was selected as the All-BIG EAST Rookie of the Year honoree and was also a First Team All-BIG EAST selection in addition to being named the Sheehan Stanwick Rookie of the Year. 

  • In the 2022 BIG EAST Preseason Coaches Poll, Georgetown earned 17 points from the league's six head coaches to sit in third behind the University of Denver with 25 points and UConn with 21 votes. Villanova claimed fourth with 13 points, followed by Marquette in fifth with nine and Butler rounded out the poll sixth.

  • Graduate student Mary Pagano, senior Oliva Buckman, senior Ali Diamond and senior Celia Walsh were selected as captains by the coaching staff and their teammates to lead the 2022 squad.

About the Eagles

  • The Eagles return 22 players from the 2021 squad, including four fifth years and the eight-player senior class

  • Fifth-year attacker Emma Vinall was selected to her second-consecutive Patriot League Preseason All-League team. 

  • Vinall returns as one of the top players in free positions as she shot 83.3 percent (10-12) last year to rank third in all of Division I.

  • American will stay local in the DMV area for their first six games as they are scheduled to play the Hoyas at home on the 12th, UMBC at home on Feb. 19 and then three consecutive road games at George Mason Feb. 23, Howard Feb. 26 and George Washington Mar. 2.
     

Series Info

  • This will be the second ever matchup between the Hoyas and the Eagles with Georgetown holding a 1-0 record.

  • The Hoyas were victorious in the first ever matchup by defeating the Eagles 17-11 on the Hilltop in 2012.

 

Next Time Out

The Hoyas will be back in action for the home opener against the Rutgers Scarlet Knights. The tilt against Rutgers is slated for 3 p.m. on Feb. 19 at Cooper Field.
