ABOUT THE HOYAS
  • Georgetown is coming off of a 6-25 season in 2021, including a 6-19 mark in BIG EAST play.
  • The Hoyas welcomed six freshmen and 11 transfers to the 39-man roster for 2022.
  • Among the returners are RBI leaders Andrew Ciufo (13) and Christian Ficca (11) as well as top hurlers Carter Bosch (3.45 ERA, 41 Ks) and Nolan McCarthy (3.63 ERA, 42 Ks).
  • GU has split its last two season openers with its most recent opening day win coming at Navy on Feb. 14, 2020 (16-6).

SCOUTING RIDER
  • Rider is fresh off of an NCAA Tournament berth following its 2021 MAAC Championship. The Broncs finished the season with a 23-18 record.
  • Despite losing top hitter David Bermudez, the tandem of Scott Shaw (.255 BA) and Luke Lesch (.254 BA) will look to lead Rider back to the top. Frank Doelling returns for the Broncs and is projected to start against the Hoyas after putting forth a 5-3 record with a 3.30 ERA in 2021.
  • Georgetown will square off with Rider for the first time since 2019, sweeping the Broncs in its April 20  doubleheader. The Hoyas won game one, 12-7, behind a combined 15-hit effort before stunning the Broncs in game two with a five-run seventh and stealing a 10-9 victory.

SCOUTING WAKE FOREST
  • Wake Forest is looking to bounce back from a 20-27 campaign last year and make the NCAA Tournament for the first time since 2017.
  • The Demon Deacons have three power hitters returning from a year ago in Brock Wilken (17 HRs), Michael Turconi (8 HRs) and Lucas Costello (5 HRs).
  • Georgetown will play Wake Forest for the first time since 2019. The Hoyas nearly knocked off the No. 20 Demon Deacons in their last meeting, holding WF scoreless over the final three innings and pulling to within two on a late two-run single by McCabe before falling, 5-3.

SCOUTING LAFAYETTE
  • Lafayette is coming off of a 14-17 season and will look to grow in Head Coach Tim Reilly's second season.
  • The Leopards return their three All-Patriot League selections in Justin Johnson (first team), Justin Gretch (second team) and Pete Ciuffreda (second team).
  • Georgetown will face Lafayette for the first time since 2017. The two squads were supposed to square off in 2020 and were slated as each other's next opponent before the COVID-19 pandemic canceled the season. The Hoyas have won four-straight against Lafayette, including a three-game sweep in 2017, outscoring the opposition, 33-18.
