Third-ranked Hoyas Head to Midwest to Face No. 4 Notre Dame

WASHINGTON – A battle between two top-five teams is on the horizon as Georgetown University's third-ranked men's lacrosse team heads to the Midwest to face fourth-ranked Notre Dame in South Bend, Indiana on Saturday at 1 p.m. The two teams play for the first time since 2017 and the first time at a campus site since 2015.
 
 About Georgetown
  • The Hoyas are 2-0 on the season after defeating a pair or nationally-ranked teams in then-No. 16/19 Johns Hopkins 16-8 in the season opener at home and a 10-8 victory over No. 10/11 Penn on the road.
  • Against the Quakers, Will Bowen was credited with four caused turnovers on the day and was responsible for marking Penn's consensus preseason first team All-American Sam Handley, holding him to a lone goal on nine shots.
  • James Reilly put together a strong day at the X, winning 14-of-22 (.636) faceoffs on the day and collecting a game-high 11 ground balls to go with his goal.
  • Bowen was named to the USILA National Team of the Week, Bowen and Reilly earned BIG EAST Defensive Player and Midfielder of the Week honors, respectively, and Connor Morin was named to the weekly honor roll with a two-goal, one-assist performance against Penn.
  • Graham Bundy Jr. leads the Hoyas in scoring with nine points (3G, 6A) while Dylan Watson has eight goals on the year. Morin is third with five points (3G, 2A) and Alex Trippi has four points (2G, 2A). Seven other Hoyas have found the back of the cage already this season as well.
  • Defensively, Owen McElroy has been a wall in net, posting an 8.00 goals-against average to go with a .636 save percentage and back-to-back double digit save performance with 17 against Johns Hopkins and 11 against Penn.
  • Bowen has five caused turnovers on the year while Gibson Smith IV and Alex Mazzone have a pair each.
  • Reilly has won 24-of-39 (.615) of his faceoffs so far and has 20 ground balls. Smith is second on the team with 12 while Bowen and McElroy each have seven.
Scouting Notre Dame
  • The Fighting Irish are 1-0 on the season following a 24-2 season-opening win against Detroit Mercy.
  • Pat Kavanagh led ND with four goals and four assists while his brother, Chris, added four goals and two assists in his collegiate debut.
  • Four other Irish scored two goals while 14 different Notre Dame players scored in the game.
  • Notre Dame won 18-of-28 faceoffs on the day, with Colin Hagstrom going 8-for-9 and Will Lynch going 11-for-16 at the X.
  • In goal, Liam Entenmann had nine saves, playing a little more than just a half of action.
Series History
  • The Hoyas and Notre Dame have faced each other 17 times dating back to Georgetown's inaugural varsity season in 1970. Notre Dame holds a 10-7 series lead in a back-and-forth rivalry between the two programs.
  • With the Fighting Irish winning the first three matchups, the Blue & Gray then won seven of the next eight showdowns before Notre Dame claimed the last six.
  • The last meeting saw ND take home a 16-10 win at the Patriot Cup in Texas in 2017 while the Hoyas last defeated the Irish 11-8 in Washington, D.C. in 2010.
