Men’s Lacrosse Hosts Mount St. Mary’s in Midweek Action

WASHINGTON – Georgetown University's third-ranked men's lacrosse team returns to the friendly confines of Cooper Field as it hosts Mount St. Mary's in midweek action on Tuesday at 3 p.m. The Hoyas are 3-0 on the season with a trio of wins over nationally-ranked opponents.
 
About Georgetown
  • The Hoyas are coming off a 16-11 road victory at then-No. 4 Notre Dame on Saturday.
  • Owen McElroy tied his career high with 24 saves – the second-most in a single game in program history – to anchor the Georgetown defense. He was named the BIG EAST Defensive Player of the Week for the eighth time in his career.
  • James Reilly had yet another impressive day, winning 21 of 29 faceoffs (.724) and collecting 14 ground balls. His 21 faceoff wins are the fourth-most in a game in Georgetown history. He added an assist as well and was named the BIG EAST Midfielder of the Week for the second-straight week.
  • Eight different Hoyas scored in the game, led by Declan McDermott with four goals and an assist. Connor Morin added three goals and an assist in his first game back in South Bend after transferring to the Hilltop for graduate school after graduating from Notre Dame. Morin earned a repeat spot on the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll for his efforts.
  • Dylan Watson had two goals and an assist, Graham Bundy Jr. and Hess both had two goals and Alex Trippi chipped in a goal with three assists. Bowen and Geddes each found the back of the cage as well while TJ Haley and Colin Munro both tallied assists.
Scouting Mount St. Mary's
  • The Mountaineers are 3-2 on the season with wins over Navy, Hampton and UMBC. Mount St. Mary's has won its last two – 17-5 against the Pirates and 9-8 against the Retrievers.
  • Cormac Giblin leads The Mount with 12 points (10G, 2A) while Jared McMahon adds 11 (9G, 2A).
  • Connor Beals has taken the lion's share of faceoff, winning 45 of 93 (.484) and leads the team with 17 ground balls.
  • Defensively, Steven Schmitt has been credited with eight caused turnovers with Evan Janiec adding seven.
  • Between the pipes, Griffin McGinley has started four games and owns a 10.58 goals-against average to go with a .563 save percentage. He has 54 saves on the year, including 21 in the season opener at Navy.
Series History
  • The Georgetown vs. Mount St. Mary's rivalry is one of the longest in program history with its 39th showdown taking place on Tuesday.
  • Georgetown holds a 21-17 all-time advantage and have won the last five meetings.
  • The Mount's last victory in the rivalry was an 11-8 win in 2016 on the Hilltop.
