Baseball Faces Maryland and Cornell This Weekend

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University baseball team will look to extend its three-game winning streak with contests against Maryland and Cornell this weekend. Due to inclement weather expecting to pass through the area, there are time, date and location changes.

The Hoyas will face the Terrapins on Friday, March 11 at 4 p.m. at Bob "Turtle" Smith Stadium. Georgetown will head back to College Park, Maryland for a 10 a.m. showdown on Sunday, March 13 with the Big Red before a 6 p.m. contest against Maryland on Monday.

  • Friday's contest will be live streamed on Big Ten+ and will have access to live stats.

ABOUT THE HOYAS

  • Georgetown enters the weekend on a three-game winning streak after taking two from UMass and earning an extra-inning victory against William & Mary (5-4) on Tuesday.
  • Jake Hyde picked up his first career BIG EAST Player of the Week after going 13-for-24 and slashing .542/.577/.958 in five games last week. The sophomore accumulated three home runs, eight runs scored and seven RBIs. 
  • Four Hoyas are rolling with reached base streaks of 10 games or more, including Hyde (12G), Ethan Stern (12G), Owen Carapellotti (10G) and Andrew Ciufo (10G).
  • GU also has two players hitting .400 or better and ranking inside the BIG EAST top five in batting average with Hyde (.480, 1st in BE) and Ciufo (.421, 3rd in BE).
  • Hyde paces the conference with 24 hits while Nolan McCarthy and Kyle Salley are in a six-way tie for first with two wins on the season.
  • The Hoyas lead the BIG EAST offensively with 87 runs scored and 19 home runs.

SCOUTING MARYLAND

  • The Terps have split its last four contests after starting the year with eight-consecutive wins.
  • Troy Schreffler Jr. has been solid for Maryland, batting .400 and ranking third in the Big Ten with 18 hits.
  • Nick Dean has dominated off the rubber, going 2-0 with a 0.93 ERA and 19 strikeouts across 19.2 innings of work.
  • The Hoyas and Maryland will square off for the first time since March 17, 2004.


SCOUTING CORNELL

  • The Big Red has won two of its last three contests after dropping three straight to open the 2022 campaign.
  • Cornell's pitching has struggled over the first six games, posting an ERA over 10 with opposition hitting over .300.
  • Offensively, Joe Hollerbach has strung together a successful six games, slashing .542/.607/1.000 with 13 hits, two homers and six RBIs.
  • Georgetown dominated the Big Red in its last outing with a 3-1 win behind Nick Leonard's 10-strikeout game on April 4, 2017.
