WASHINGTON – Georgetown track's Matthew Payamps competed in his first NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championship on Friday afternoon in Birmingham, Alabama.
HOW HE GOT HERE
• Payamps qualified for the meet running a 3:55.53 mile at the Scarlet & White Invitational in February.
PAYAMPS FIRST NCAA INDOOR CHAMPIONSHIPS
• The New York native competed in the two-heat prelim that brought together the top 16 runners from the regular season.
• Running in heat one, Payamps ran strong through the first trips around the track and held on through lap six. The field pushed to a new gear and Payamps slipped back, clocking 4:05.98 and falling short of the top four automatic qualifiers.
