Donahue and Teffra Stand Out Raleigh Relays

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown track & field team competed in NC State's Raleigh Relays over Thursday, Friday and Saturday in North Carolina. Junior Maggie Donahue placed highest for the Hoyas as she clinched second in the 10,000 meter run on Thursday and Abel Teffra finished sixth in the men's 800 meter run on Saturday afternoon. Multiple Hoyas also broke school records as they prepare to qualify for NCAA Championships in May.

DIRECTOR OF TRACK & FIELD ALTON McKENZIE
"There were some very significant results from our first two days competing at the Raleigh Relays. Thursday saw Maggie Donahue running the second fastest time in school history in the 10K (33:05.56); on her very first time competing at the distance. The following night we had Kiera Bothwell breaking the school record in the 3K Steeplechase, running 10:12.40. Friday was also a good night for Matt Young who ran a very competitive 10K with a time of 28:54.73 which should secure a NCAA Regional qualifying mark.

Saturday's weather made it difficult to run fast times or have big jumps, but it was an opportunity to get adjusted to competing outdoor and focus on racing and jumping when conditions are less than ideal. With this being a season opener for the majority of those competing, we can take this meet as a stepping stone in our preparation as we look forward to meets in the coming weeks."

HOYA HIGHLIGHTS
  • In the women's 10,000 meter run, Maggie Donahue ran a time of 33:05.36 to secure second place just behind Georgia Tech's Nicole Fegans (33:00.89). With her performance, she now has the second fast time in Georgetown's history in the 10,000 meter run.
