Baseball Readies for George Washington and Coppin State

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University baseball team will look to extend its three-game winning streak when it heads to Arlington, Virginia to take on George Washington on Tuesday, March 29 at Barcroft Park with first pitch slated for 3 p.m. The Hoyas will also make up their postponed contest against Coppin State on Wednesday, March 30 with a 4 p.m. start at Shirley Povich Field.

  • Tuesday's contest will be streamed live on ESPN+ and fans will have access to live stats on GUHoyas.com.
  • Wednesday's contest will be streamed live on HoyaVison and live stats will be available on GUHoyas.com.
 
ABOUT THE HOYAS
  • Georgetown is coming off of a weekend sweep of VMI, outscoring the opposition (24-14) in three games. 
  • Jake Hyde remained hot in four games last week, unloading a .444/.500/1.222 slash line with four home runs, two doubles and 15 RBIs to pick up his third BIG EAST Player of the Week honor.
  • Hyde paces the BIG EAST and is ranked inside the nation's top 25 with 43 hits (T-7th in NCAA), 10 home runs (T-10th), a .439 batting average (12th), an .857 slugging percentage (12th), 11 doubles (T-20th) and 31 RBIs (T-23rd).
  • Ethan Stern and Hyde are tied for the BIG EAST lead with 27 runs scored.
  • Angelo Tonas leads the team with 14 appearances in 2022 (3rd in NCAA), boasting a 1-1 mark with four saves, a 1.53 ERA and 22 strikeouts across 17.2 innings of work.
  • Georgetown leads the conference with 38 home runs (T-19th in NCAA) while scoring 172 runs this season (7.5 per game). GU is on pace to break its single-season home run record of 54 (2010) and is currently seventh all-time behind the 2003 squad (41). 

SCOUTING GEORGE WASHINGTON
  • The Colonials (10-13) lost all three games in their weekend slate against East Tennessee State after previously riding a five-game winning streak.
  • Steve DiTomaso paces the GW lineup posting a .370/.402/.510 slash line to go along with 37 hits, 15 RBIs and 19 runs scored.
  • As a team, George Washington is batting .272 with 5.4 runs per game.
  • The Hoyas and the Colonials will meet for the 142nd time with their matchup on Tuesday.

SCOUTING COPPIN STATE
  • The Eagles (9-14) split its series with Norfolk State over the weekend, winning the final two games of the series.
  • Coppin State has five players hitting .300 or better with Sebastien Sarabia leading the way at .333 in 18 starts.
  • Wednesday will mark the 42nd meeting between Georgetown and Coppin State with the Hoyas holding a 37-4 overall record.
