Third-Ranked Hoyas Welcome No. 18 Princeton to the Hilltop

WASHINGTON – Georgetown University's third-ranked men's lacrosse team looks to continue its strong start to the 2022 campaign and hosts No. 18 Princeton on Saturday at noon. The Hoyas are 4-0 on the season with three wins over nationally-ranked opponents.
 
About Georgetown
  • The Hoyas are coming off a 21-4 midweek home victory against Mount St. Mary's on Tuesday.
  • Dylan Watson led the Hoyas with four goals and an assist while TJ Haley tallied a goal and dished out four assists.
  • Graham Bundy Jr. had three goals and an assist, Alex Trippi added a goal with two assists and Declan McDermott, Brandon Meaux and Colin Munro each had two goals.
  • Georgetown's defense held the Mountaineers scoreless for the first 27:13 of the game and didn't give up a second goal until more than 10 minutes into the third quarter.
  • The Hoyas were credited with 17 caused turnovers, with Will Bowen leading the way with four. Will Tominovich added three while Wallace Halpert and Michael Haus both had a pair.
  • Watson paces the Hoyas with 16 points (14G, 2A) on the year with Bundy hot on his trail with 15 points (8G, 7A). Trippi adds 11 points (4G, 7A) while Connor Moran rounds out the Hoyas in double digits with 10 points (7G, 3A).
  • James Reilly has won 53 of 81 (.654) faceoffs on the year and leads the Hoyas with 39 ground balls.
  • Bowen has been credited with nine caused turnovers so far this season with Halpert, Alex Mazzone and Tominovich each chipping in three.
  • In goal, Owen McElroy has been a brick wall, posting an 8.00 goals-against average to go with 55 saves and a .663 save percentage.
Scouting Princeton
  • The Tigers are 2-1 on the season with wins over Monmouth and Binghamton.
  • Princeton is coming off a 15-10 loss at top-ranked Maryland last weekend.
  • Chris Brown leads Princeton with 17 points (9G, 8A) while Alex Slusher adds 12 (9G, 3A) and Sam English has 11 (6G, 5A).
  • Tyler Sandoval is the top faceoff threat, winning 30 of 47 (.638) and leads the team with 12 ground balls.
  • Defensively, Andrew Song and Ben Finlay have both been credited with four caused turnovers.
  • Between the pipes, Erik Peters has started all three games for the Tigers and owns an 11.05 GAA to go with a .597 save percentage. He has 40 saves on the year, including 19 in the loss to the Terps.
Series History
  • Georgetown and Princeton meet for just the seventh time in program history and the first time since the 2007 NCAA Tournament First Round held on the Hilltop.
  • The Tigers own a 5-1 series advantage, but the Hoyas won the last meeting - 9-8 in overtime - to advance to the 2007 NCAA Quarterfinals against eventual National Champions Johns Hopkins.
  • In that overtime victory, Brendan Cannon scored the game-winner just 31 seconds into the extra frame.
  • Defensively, the Hoyas were credited with 10 caused turnovers, including three from Steve Bauer.
