Box Score WASHINGTON – Graduate student
Nolan McCarthy earned his second win of the season behind an 11-strikeout performance while the Georgetown University baseball team exploded for five home runs in its 11-8 victory over UMass on Saturday. The Hoyas jump to 6-4 while the Minutemen fall to 1-1.
"Great bounce back for us today.
Nolan McCarthy gave us an outstanding performance today, giving us 6.2 innings and the score was in control because of him. Offensively, to score six runs in the first, two home runs by
Jake Hyde throughout the day and the four home runs in the third to give us a 10-run lead, was monumental for our team. Looking forward to having a chance to win on Sunday." - Head Coach
Edwin Thompson on today's game
HOYA HIGHLIGHTS
- McCarthy fell one strikeout shy of a career-high with 11 punchouts across 6.2 innings of work to earn his second win in as many weekends. McCarthy also retired five of the first six batters on strikes.
- Jake Hyde extended his hitting streak to 10 games and recorded his first career multi-homer game, smacking a pair of solo shots before finishing the day 3-for-5 with three RBIs. Hyde became the first player since Alex Bernauer in 2016 to hit two dingers in a game.
- Ubaldo Lopez registered his third home run of the season with his solo shot in the third while Adam Dapkewicz smacked his second and Cam Meyer recorded his first with the Hoyas. Lopez also drove in three runs and scored twice, joining Dapkewicz, Hyde and Andrew Ciufo with two tallies on the afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
- The Hoyas unloaded six runs in the opening frame, starting with a leadoff solo shot from Hyde. Georgetown hacked away with a two-run single by Lopez followed by RBI base knocks from Evan Blum, Andrew Bergeron, and Hyde to go up, 6-0.
- After a blank second, Georgetown unleashed four home runs in the third frame. Dapkewicz laced a solo shot to right before Lopez went back-to-back with a homer to left for an 8-0 lead. Three batters later, Hyde rocked his second dinger of the game before Myer drilled his first of the year to left center to take a 10-0 advantage.
- Owen Carapellotti smacked an RBI double in the fourth after Ciufo singled and swiped second to go up by 11.
- McCarthy worked in and out of trouble in the fourth and fifth innings, stranding five runners and keeping the shutout intact.
- UMass broke through with a five-run seventh and a three-run ninth before the Hoyas shut the door for an 11-8 victory over the Minutemen.
OF NOTE

- Dapkewicz and Lopez are the second pair this season to hit back-to-back jacks, joining Ciufo and Carapellotti (02/20/22).
