Baseball Heads to Indianapolis for Three-Game Set with Butler

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University baseball team will look to continue its winning ways when it heads to Indianapolis and opens a three-game set against Butler on Thursday. 

First pitch for Thursday's and Friday's games are slated for 4 p.m. while Saturday's contest is scheduled for 1 p.m.

GAMEDAY INFORMATION
  • Fans will have access to live stats on GUHoyas.com for all three contests.
  • The first two games of the series will be broadcast live on FloBaseball.
  • Saturday's contest will be broadcast on the BIG EAST Digital Network, presented by SoFi, with Mark Minner on play-by-play, Nick Gardner providing analysis and Kelly Hallinan reporting from the sidelines.

ABOUT THE HOYAS
  • Georgetown is coming off of a 10-2 victory over UMBC, powered by a pair of Ubaldo Lopez home runs and solid pitching out of the bullpen. 
  • The Hoyas also won its 20th game of the season on Tuesday, reaching the 20-win plateau for the 27th time in program history.
  • With two homers on Wednesday, Lopez moved into a tie for second place all-time for home runs in a single season with 14, tying Sean Lamont (2009) and trailing just Glen Bruckner's mark of 15 (1987). The Hoya left fielder enters the weekend going 20-for-42 (.476) with 10 homers, 22 RBIs and 15 runs scored in his last 10 starts. 
  • Against UMBC, seven Hoya pitchers combined to allow just two runs on five hits while striking out 12, marking the 14th time this season GU has racked up 10 or more strikeouts in a game. Andrew DeRoche, Miller Freeman, Ayden Head, Angelo Tonas and Connor Udell all tossed scoreless outings out of the bullpen.
  • Lopez leads the BIG EAST with his 14 home runs (T-5th in NCAA) while ranking behind teammate Jake Hyde with 35 RBIs.
  • Hyde paces the conference with 40 runs scored and 36 RBIs while smacking a second-best with 50 hits, 12 doubles and 13 homers (T-9th in NCAA)
  • Georgetown leads the BIG EAST with 66 home runs (T-4th in NCAA) while ranking second with 246 runs this season (7.5 per game). 

SCOUTING BUTLER
  • The Bulldogs enter the three-game series having lost four of its last five games with its lone win coming over Villanova on Sunday (11-3).
  • Travis Holt and Aaron Steinhart lead the Butler lineup with respective .305 and .302 batting averages. Holt paces the team with 24 runs scored while Steinhart leads with seven homers and 27 RBIs.
  • BU pitchers have battled through 33 games, posting a 6.97 ERA and 249 strikeouts across 279 total innings.
  • Georgetown and Butler will meet at Bulldog Park for the first time since 2018. The Hoyas came away with a 5-3 win in the series finale after scoring four in the second inning, which proved to be enough for starter Jerry Burke who went 7.1 innings and struck out five for the win.
