Third-Seeded Hoyas to Face Second-Seeded Golden Eagles in BIG EAST Semifinal

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown women's lacrosse team will face Marquette University in the semifinals of the BIG EAST Championship presented by JEEP. The third-seeded Hoyas and second-seeded Golden Eagles will meet in the second semifinal of the day at Peter Barton Lacrosse Stadium in Denver. The opening draw is slated for 6 p.m. ET.

  • Georgetown sits at 8-8 overall and went 3-2 in the BIG EAST following regular season play.
  • GU and Marquette are quite familiar with one another as the Blue & Gray dropped a tough 14-12 decision in Milwaukee two weeks ago in Georgetown's road finale.
  • On Monday, senior Ali Diamond was the BIG EAST Attacker of the Week, while graduate student Mary Pagano was selected as the BIG EAST Midfielder of the Week. Finally, junior Emily Gaven earned a spot on the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll.
  • All three played a significant role in GU's 22-12 win over then No. 14 UConn.
  • On Wednesday, a league-high eight Hoyas were named All-BIG EAST which was announced by the league office. Four Hoyas were named to the first team and four earned a spot on the second team. It marks the first all-conference honor for all eight of the selections.
  • Diamond leads the squad with 54 points on 30 goals and 24 assists.
  • Graduate student Erin Bakes is second with 40 points on 31 goals and nine assists, while freshman Emma Gebhardt and sophomore Kylie Hazen round out the top four with 31 points apiece. 
  • Graduate student LizaBanks Campagna paces the Georgetown effort on the field as she has a Georgetown record 115 draw controls with six caused turnovers. Senior Jordyn Sabourin has also contributed 41 draws.
  • Freshman Melissa Massimino adds 27 caused turnovers and senior Olivia Buckman has 21 for the Blue & Gray.
About the Golden Eagles
  • Marquette enters the tournament as the second seed, its highest seeding in program history.
  • The Golden Eagles posted an 8-9 overall mark in the regular season, with a 3-2 record in league play.
  • Most recently, MU fell in its regular season finale at No 10 Denver on April 30, suffering a 19-8 loss.
  • Six Marquette players were named to the All-BIG EAST First and Second teams on Wednesday.
  • A pair of Golden Eagles earned a spot on the All-BIG EAST First Team in senior midfielder Lydia Foust and junior attacker Mary Schumar.

  • Georgetown is 8-3 all-time against the Golden Eagles and 1-0 in the BIG EAST semifinals.
  • The most recent tournament meeting was a 17-10 victory over Marquette in 2019. Georgetown had fallen to MU just days prior in the season finale.
