WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University football team has announced the hiring of
Corey Burns, Jack McDaniels,
Kenneth Tinsley and
Jameson Zacharias to the 2022 coaching staff while
Alex Kolt and
Steve Thames Jr. have earned title changes within the program.

All of our new assistants have made an immediate positive impact on our student-athletes and our overall team culture. In their short time with our program, they have worked tirelessly in recruiting across the country to bring the best student-athletes to the Hilltop."
Corey Burns - Assistant Coach, Defensive Line
- Burns will oversee the team's defensive line and will assist in recruiting Texas (West Dallas), Central Florida, North Florida and St. Louis, Missouri.
- He comes to the Hilltop after serving as a graduate assistant coach at Temple University and Colorado State, assisting in defensive linemen development.
- With Colorado State, Burns helped the defensive line lead the FBS in team tackles for loss with 10.5, rank fourth with 4.0 team sacks and 12th in rushing defense, allowing 108.5 yards per game.
- The Massachusetts native also spent a season as the special teams coordinator and defensive line coach with his alma mater, Tufts University, where he started all four years at defensive end and recorded 10.5 tackles for loss.
- Burns graduated from Tufts in 2016 with a bachelor's degree in community health and a minor in economics before returning for his master's in healthcare management & policy.
Kenneth Tinsley - Assistant Coach, Running Backs
- Tinsley takes over as the team's running backs coach and will assist in recruiting Arizona, Pennsylvania and Maryland (Calvert County, Carroll County, Frederick County, Harford County).
- He comes to the District after a full season with the University of Maine as the running backs coach, guiding Freddie Brock to a 5.45 yards per carry, ranking third in the CAA and 33rd in FCS.
- Prior to his time at Maine, Tinsley served assistant coaching stints at Union College, American International College, Morrisville State College and Bates College.
- Tinsley spent the three seasons at Union where he played a key part in the Dutchmen's offense game planning and assisted in wide receiver development. In 2019, he helped guide Union to an undefeated regular season and an 11-1 mark overall. He mentored wide receiver Andre Ross Jr. to a 2018 Rookie of the Year honor and two All-Liberty League First Team selections.
- The D.C. native played three seasons at tight end for Central State University. While at CSU, Tinsley played for five-time Pro Bowl honoree and New England Patriots Hall of Fame tight end Ben Coates.
- Tinsley graduated from CSU in 2013 with a degree in business administration management before going on to earn his master's in business administration from American International College in 2019.
Jameson Zacharias - Assistant Coach, Secondary
- Zacharias will oversee the team's secondary while assisting in recruiting California (San Diego / Los Angeles), Illinois, Oregon and Washington.
- Prior to his time on the Hilltop, the newest Hoya coach spent four seasons with Patriot League-rival Fordham. Zacharias has had previous coaching stints at IUP, Central Michigan and Towson.
- In his time with the Rams, the Maryland native guided eight players to all-conference selections, including 2021 Patriot League Defensive Player of the Year Ryan Greenhagen.
- At Indiana University of Pennsylvania (2017-18), Zacharias guided Crimson Hawk cornerback JR Stevens to the All-PSAC Second Team and First Team All-Region honors.
- Prior to his two years at IUP, Zacharias coached the outside linebackers and cornerbacks for two seasons at Central Michigan, owning the sixth-ranked pass defense in the Mid-American Conference in 2016 and giving up just under 223 yards per game through the air. Junior cornerback Amari Coleman tied the MAC lead with four interceptions, returning two for touchdowns to earn All-MAC First Team honors.
- The 2013 graduate of Monmouth University picked up his bachelor's degree in criminal justice after playing four seasons for the Hawks.
Jack McDaniels - Assistant Coach, Tight Ends
- McDaniels will oversee GU's tight ends for the 2022 season and will assist in recruiting Alabama, South Carolina, Colorado, Oklahoma, Texas and Fairfax County in Virginia.
- The Lorton, Virginia native comes to the Hilltop after a successful playing career at Delaware State and West Alabama, serving as a five-year starting quarterback.
- In 47 career starts, the All-Gulf South Conference Team selection accumulated more than 9,000 career passing yards with 95 career total touchdowns.
- The former ball slinger led the West Alabama Tigers to top 10 rankings in DII, averaging 287 passing yards and 170 rushing yards per game while posting 29.5 points per contest.
- McDaniels graduated from West Alabama with a bachelor's degree in business in 2020 before earning a master's degree in business administration.
Alex Kolt - Assistant Head Coach, Offensive Line
- Kolt enters his 11th season with Georgetown after joining the program in 2011 and has been elevated to assistant head coach.
- The Arlington, Virginia native has guided eight players to a combined 11 All-Patriot League honors, including 2021 second team selection Talati Polamalu.
- Georgetown ranked third in the conference in total offense, recording 333.7 yards and 19.0 points per game.
Steve Thames Jr. - Wide Receivers / Pass Game Coordinator, Recruiting Coordinator
- Thames Jr. has been a part of the Hoya staff since March 2020 and has earned the title of pass game coordinator.
- The Maryland native was an integral part in the development of 2021 All-Patriot League First Team selection Joshua Tomas, who led the conference in receptions per game (5.8 - 22nd in FCS) and was second in receiving yards per game (76.7 - 30th in FCS).
- In 2021, the Hoyas held top-50 FCS marks in passing yards per game (253.7 - 26th) and completion percentage (59.3% - 50th).
