No. 19 Georgetown Takes on No. 20 Denver on Monday

WASHINGTON – The No. 19/9 Georgetown University men's soccer team will host the No. 20/NR University of Denver Pioneers on Monday in a nonconference matchup at Shaw Field. Kickoff is slated for 1 p.m. The game will be broadcast live on the BIG EAST Digital Network Presented by SoFi on FloSports with Georgetown men's soccer alums Dan Helfrich and Tom Greaser back in the broadcast booth for their 18th season.

About the Hoyas
  • Georgetown (1-1-1) scored five goals to pick up the 5-2 victory over the Temple Owls on Friday afternoon at Shaw Field.
  • The victory marked Head Coach Brian Wiese's 200th career victory at the helm making him just the second coach in program history to achieve the milestone.
  • All five of GU's goals came from underclassmen as the Hoyas continue to rotate in new faces from a season ago.
  • Georgetown outshot Temple 27-7 as the Hoyas had 14 on goal, and the Owls tallied three. GU was awarded six corner kicks to Temple's three in the game.
  • Graduate student Ethan Koehler took the win in the net for the Hoyas.
  • Georgetown was picked second in the BIG EAST Conference Preseason Coaches Poll as the Hoyas were awarded 93 points and seven first place votes. Additionally, senior Daniel Wu was named the BIG EAST Co-Preseason Defensive Player of the Year as well as a spot on the Preseason All-BIG EAST squad.
  • The Hoyas are currently ranked No. 19 in the United Soccer Coaches Preseason Poll and No. 9 in the TopDrawerSoccer Poll.
About the Pioneers
  • Ronan Wynne and Sam Bassett found the back of the net inside the opening 20 minutes for the Pioneers and Denver kept its first clean sheet of the campaign to send the Pioneers past No. 9 Maryland 2-0 on Friday night at Ludwig Field.
  • Denver is 3-0 on the season with wins over Gonzaga (3-1), Grand Canyon (2-1) and the Terps.
  • The Pios were selected as the preseason favorites after winning eight Summit League regular season titles in its 10th year in the conference. Additionally, Trevor Wright and Wynne were selected as Summit League Players to Watch.
  • Denver won the Summit League a season ago, and advanced to the second round of the NCAA Tournament before falling 1-0 to eventual-champion Clemson 1-0 in overtime on a penalty kick.
