WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University softball team has announced its 2023 spring schedule. The team will compete from February 10 through May 7 and play 51 games with 15 of those being played at home at the Nationals Youth Baseball Academy.
To start the season, the Hoyas head to Jacksonville, Florida to play in Jacksonville University's River City Leadoff Tournament. Georgetown will play Furman University on Friday, February 10 at noon followed by a 2:30 p.m. game against the University of North Florida. On Saturday, February 11 the Blue & Gray will play Furman and North Florida at 2:30 p.m. and 7:30 p.m., respectively. The final game of the three-day tournament will take place on Sunday, February 12 at noon against host Jacksonville.
The second weekend of play for the Hoyas is the Hampton/Norfolk State Round Robin in Norfolk, Virginia. On Friday, February 17 GU is set to play Lehigh University at 10 a.m. followed by Quinnipiac at 12:30 p.m. On Saturday (February 18) Georgetown will play UMass Lowell at 12:30 p.m. and turn around and play Norfolk State at 3 p.m. To close out the weekend's competition the Hoyas face Bucknell on Sunday, February 19 at 12:30 p.m. Sunday's game against Bucknell is the only game being played in Hampton, Virginia for the Blue & Gray.
Rolling into the weekend of February 24-26, Georgetown will head south yet again to Wilmington, North Carolina to play in UNC Wilmington's tournament. On Friday, the Hoyas play App State at 2 p.m. and Eastern Kentucky at 4:30 p.m. The next day, the Blue & Gray match up with App State and EKU for a second time with the games being played at 10 a.m. and 12:30 p.m., respectively. The final game of the weekend is slated for a 11:30 a.m. first pitch against hosts UNCW. All games will be played on UNCW's campus.
The last of four away weekends for the Hoyas is scheduled for Madeira Beach, Florida where the team will compete in THE Spring Games from March 3-5. The round robin style play will start on Friday against Southeastern Louisiana at 3 p.m. followed by a 5:30 p.m. game against Central Michigan. The Hoyas have a quick turnaround the next day with a 10 a.m. matchup against Middle Tennessee and a 12:30 p.m. game with UAlbany. The last game will take place Sunday morning at 11:30 a.m. against Holy Cross. All games will be played at R.O.C. Park.
Georgetown's home opener is a three-day series with Villanova from March 10-12. Friday's start time is 3 p.m. while Saturday is 1 p.m. and Sunday is at noon. All of the Blue & Gray's home games will be played at the Nationals Youth Baseball Academy in the District. The Hoyas host Hampton at home on Wednesday, March 15 at 3 p.m.
The team sets out to South Orange, New Jersey for a three-game series with Seton Hall from March 17-19. The Hoyas play at 3 p.m. on Friday, 1 p.m. on Saturday and at noon on Sunday. The following weekend, March 24-26, they take on UConn on the road in Storrs, Connecticut. The Hoyas play Friday evening at 6 p.m., Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m. and Sunday afternoon at noon. GU will play an away game just up the road at George Washington on Wednesday, March 9 at 3 p.m.
Ending play for March and kick-starting April's competition is an away round robin in Tucson, Arizona. The Blue & Gray head west for three games over March 31-April 1 as they play Arizona on Friday (4 p.m.) and again on Saturday (3 p.m.). The team will also play San Diego at 10 a.m. on Saturday. All games will be played on UofA's campus.
The week before Easter sees Georgetown host Providence in a doubleheader on Wednesday, April 5 (3 p.m.) and a single game on Thursday at noon. Continuing with home play, the Hoyas host Coppin State at 3 p.m. on Tuesday April 11 followed by a three-game series at home against Creighton on April 14-16. On Friday, the teams play at 3 p.m. while Saturday's start will be at 1 p.m. and Sunday at 11 a.m. On April 19, GU hosts Towson in a night game (7 p.m.) in the District.
The Hoyas have seven road games from April 21-30. The team travels to Queens, New York for three games against St. John's from April 21-23 and will return to the DMV for a road game at George Mason on April 26 (4 p.m.). The last away series for Georgetown is at Butler on April 28-30 in Indianapolis. The team plays Friday at 3 p.m., Saturday at 1 p.m. and Sunday at noon.
To close out regular season play, the Hoyas host DePaul on May 5-7 with the games starting at 3 p.m., 1 p.m. and noon, respectively.
