WASHINGTON – Friday morning Georgetown University's men's and women's cross country teams competed in the Mid-Atlantic Region Championship at Lehigh University in Bethlehem Pennsylvania. The women finished first, taking home an automatic bid off a dominant performance. The men finished four points out from second and an automatic bid for the NCAA Cross Country Championship.
ON THE RECORD
"I'm extremely proud of how the men competed and put themselves in position for an Automatic Bid (falling just short by 4 points). I think we're deserving of an at large bid based on our body of work for the entire season…we'll see how things transpire across the country to see if we get in. Our Women have been performing at a high level all season and once again dominated at a Post-Season Meet to win the NCAA Mid-Atlantic Regional Championships for a 3rd time in a row. Says a lot that we put 4 women in the top 10 at the Regional Championships." - Director of Track & Field/Cross Country
Alton McKenzie
"The women did a great job managing the pressures of the day and adapting to some lineup changes. In our program a major driver is that everyone is valuable; how we measure ourselves is not in the results but the degree to which we're risked failure, and what lessons from those opportunities can be gleaned. I'm proud of how seriously they take that process, and how much fun they have along the way. We're very thankful for the family, friends and teammates that were able to cover the course with cheers today, and we're excited to be back at the NCAA Championships next week to represent all of those alumni, family, friends and teammates that made this possible for us." - Head Women's Track & Field/Cross Country Coach
