Georgetown Advances to BIG EAST Championships Final

Box Score WASHINGTON – The number two seeded Georgetown women's soccer team downed the number three seeded UConn Huskies 1-0 on Thursday afternoon. With the win, the Hoyas advance to the BIG EAST Championships Final on Sunday, November 5. GU will play in its eighth-consecutive BIG EAST Championships Final looking to capture its fourth-consecutive title.

Head Coach Dave Nolan
"I thought every bit of the game was what we thought it would be. UConn had a great season and is a very dangerous team that has three kids up front that cause a lot of trouble for defenses. I felt in the first half, we didn't meet their challenge the way we wanted. I felt their energy, desire and hunger in the first half was a little bit better than ours. Normally, we are able to play ourselves out of trouble, but they kept pressing us and closing us down and it made it hard for us. At halftime I said to the team that there wasn't much wrong with our play, but we needed to dig a little bit deeper and have more bravery on both sides of the ball. It was great work from Allie Winstanley to set Tatum Lenain up for the goal. Tatum still had a lot of work to get there and finish it and she did just that. I think overall our back four was solid and Allie Augur in goal was fantastic tonight and proved why she is the top goalkeeper in the league. Ellen Carter came on and did a great job and gave us some more pace against their front three. I thought our midfielders were tireless just running up and back and our wide players did a really good job of challenging them and keeping their fullbacks home. I thought after the goal we were the team more likely to go and score  again but then all of a sudden there was a 15 minute spell where they got on top of things and threw numbers forward and asked questions of our defense but that is when Allie stepped up which is what we needed tonight."
