WASHINGTON- Georgetown University's track & field program opened their season with a doubleheader on Saturday, traveling to Boston for the Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener and to Staten Island for the Youree-Spence Garcia Invitational.
Maya Drayton set a new Georgetown record in the 300m dash, while
Chloe Scrimgeour set a new record for the 5000m indoor.
RESULTS
Georgetown Men Results:
· In his first race for Georgetown,
Tinoda Matsatsa finished first in the 800m with a 1:49.58 time at the Sharon Colyear-Danville Season Opener.
· Over on Staten Island,
Joshua Paige had a finished fourth in the 60m dash with a 6.89 second finish.
Christopher Pitt also cracked the top 15, finishing 11th overall.
· Pitt also finished fourth in the long jump with a 6.58m bound, while Paige took the 200m dash with a 21.34 time.
· The Hoyas had an outstanding performance in the 500m.
Tim McInerney, Nick Medieros, and
Nicholas Givan finished second through fourth,
Sean Hewitt took sixth,
Jabril El-Amin came in ninth, and
Patrick Bennett rounded out the Hoyas in 14th.
· Freshman
Ryan Mulrooney finished first in the 1000m with sophomore
Matthew Griffin not far behind in second.
Georgetown Women Results:
- Up in Boston, Chloe Scrimgeour built off her All-America performance in the cross country season, breaking the Georgetown record for the 5000m run with a 15:24.36 finish. She placed ninth overall in the event.
- Junior Grace Smiechowski started off the Youree-Spence Garcia Invitational for the Hoyas in strong form, finishing seventh with a 9.16 finish in the 60m hurdles.
- Maya Drayton broke another Georgetown record, finishing first in the 300m with a 38.85 time. Abbie Huey was not far behind in third, Piper Rogers, Rebecca Ohan, and Jadah Fitzgerald finished seventh through ninth. Additionally, Finley McGee came in 11th and Grace Smiechowski took 15th.
- The Hoyas dominated the 500m race, with Kaira Brown, KC Ashiogwu, and Victoria Vidolova finishing fifth sixth, and tenth, respectively.
- In the 1000m Georgetown took home the top two spots, with DeAnna Martin taking the race and Sierra Dineen finishing in second.
