WASHINGTON – The Georgetown women's lacrosse team will open the 2023 campaign against American University on Saturday at 1 p.m. The game will be played at the St. James in Springfield, Virginia. 

About the Hoyas

• Midfielder Tatum Geist, attacker Erin Bakes and defender Nicole Massimino were named Preseason All-BIG EAST. Last season, Geist was named to the All-BIG EAST First Team along with Bakes who was named to the All-BIG EAST Second Team. 
• In the 2023 BIG EAST Preseason Coaches Poll, Georgetown was picked to finish second with 29 points and one first place vote to land seven points behind the University of Denver. 
• Graduate students Massimino, Bakes, and Olivia Buckman along with seniors Emily Gaven and Hayes Anderson were selected as captains by their teammates to lead the 2023 squad. 
• The Hoyas return 27 players from the 2022 team and welcome in nine freshmen along with lone graduate transfer Olivia Rubin. 
• Head Coach Ricky Fried was inducted on February 4 into USA Lacrosse's Potomac Chapter Hall of Fame. 

About the Eagles

• The Eagles finished 9-9 last season and made the team's first Patriot League tournament appearance since 2013 when they reached the quarterfinals against Navy. 
• American is returning seven starters along with adding 11 freshmen. 
• Junior defender Jordan Mitchell was named Patriot League All-League. Last season she contributed 17 caused turnovers, 19 ground balls and 16 draw controls. 
• Attacker Maddy Spratt is the highest scoring returner for the Eagles. The sophomore tallied 27 goals and recorded the second highest season total of assists with 28.

• Saturday's matchup will be the sixth meeting for the Hoyas and the Eagles with Georgetown holding a 5-0 record. 
• The Hoyas opened the 2022 season with a 20-8 win over the Eagles.
