WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University track & field program competed in the Alex Wilson Invitational on Saturday and set a new school record in the women's distance medley relay. The team of
Melissa Riggins,
Maya Drayton,
Katy-Ann McDonald and
Grace Jensen were on the four person team that broke the previous record of 10:54.77 set in 2016. With a time of 10:54.18, the quartet have cemented themselves in Blue & Gray history.
ON THE RECORD
"We went for it with both DMRs looking to have an opportunity to qualify for the Indoor NCAA Championships. Though the men may likely come up short, their time of 9:29.73 still ranks as 5th fastest ever run in school history. Our Women ran an exceptional race as a team and for their effort produced a time of 10:54.18 that broke our school record.
We've had a strong tradition of excellence in the DMR and I'm proud to see our teams upholding that legacy." -Director of Cross Country/Track & Field
Alton McKenzie
"It takes a great effort to break any of the school records at Georgetown, especially in the DMR and from the year, 2016, where we last won an NCAA title in the event. The alumni have set the bar very high, and I'm proud of this group for taking inspiration from that history to represent the program at the highest levels. We set out to compete as well as possible against the field, and we did that. The record is a reflection of the athletes focus and competitive spirit." - Assistant Coach for Track & Field
Mitchell Baker
