Hoyas Host Creighton for Three-Game Series

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University baseball team will host the Creighton Bluejays in a three-game series this weekend. Game one will be Friday, April 14 at Washington Nationals Youth Academy. First pitch is slated for 4 p.m. and this weekend's contests will be streamed for free on YouTube.
 
GAMEDAY INFORMATION  
ABOUT THE HOYAS
  • The Hoyas are currently 19-15 after picking up two wins during the week against Maryland (10-9 10inn.) and UMBC (13-4).
  • Georgetown beat the Terrapins for the first time since 2003 on Tuesday evening and it was Ubaldo Lopez's two home runs that helped lift the Hoyas to victory.
  • On the mound, Andrew Williams was stout last weekend against Seton Hall going six innings and allowing four hits and no runs while striking out four. Cody Bowker came in and pitched a three-inning no-hitter for the save and the Hoyas fifth shutout of the season. Georgetown is currently tied for fourth in the country in shutouts with five.
  • Lopez and Jake Hyde have been dominant for the Hoyas as Hyde's 22-game hit streak ended against Seton Hall last weekend. Lopez has been hot at the plate batting .362 with 11 home runs thus far. Hyde has been dominant as well batting .326 with 10 home runs.
  • Saturday's contest will be Youth Day. There will be free t-shirts and other items for fans to claim at the field. All kids participating must be in eighth grade or below.
 
ABOUT CREIGHTON
  • The Bluejays come into the weekend with a 14-12 record after picking up a series win against Villanova last weekend. The Jays did drop a midweek contest to Kansas State 10-0 on Monday evening in their last outing.
  • Nolan Sailors leads Creighton at the plate batting .333 with three home runs, 10 doubles, and three triples. Sailor has chipped in 17 RBIs and has started every game this season for Creighton.
  • On the mound, Dominic Cancellieri has been fantastic for the Bluejays recording a 1.80 ERA in 25 innings of work this season.
  • Cancellieri was named NCAA Baseball and BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week for his performance against Villanova that saw him go eight innings and retire 21 consecutive batters after a walk in the first and single in the second. Cancellieri recorded a career-high 12 strikeouts in the contest.

UP NEXT
Georgetown will be back in action on Wednesday, April 19 as the Hoyas host Mount St. Mary's in a midweek contest. First pitch is slated for 6 p.m. at the Washington Nationals Youth Academy.
