Hoyas Head to Connecticut to Take on No. 15 UConn

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University baseball team will travel to Storrs, Connecticut to take on the No. 15 UConn Huskies this weekend. Game one will be Friday, April 21 at Elliot Ballpark. First pitch is slated for 3:05 p.m. Due to inclement weather, GU and UConn will now play a doubleheader on Saturday with game one starting at 12:05 p.m. and game two will begin 45 minutes after the conclusion of game one. 
 
GAMEDAY INFORMATION  
ABOUT THE HOYAS
  • The Hoyas are currently 22-16 and 5-1 in the last six games. GU took the series against Creighton last weekend (2-1) moving them to 5-4 in BIG EAST play.
  • Georgetown run ruled Creighton on Sunday 13-1 (7inn.) picking up its first home series win against the Bluejays in program history.
  • On Wednesday, the Hoyas downed Mount St. Mary's 19-2 behind a stellar outing from Collin Garner and Kai Leckszas on the mound. At the plate, Jake Hyde and Ubaldo Lopez dazzled, each hitting two home runs in the contest.
  • On Monday, Hyde was named BIG EAST Player of the Week and Jake Bloss was named BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week after their performances from last weekend. Bloss pitched a complete game (7inn.) on Sunday allowing two hits and one run while striking out nine Bluejays. Hyde was fantastic last week slashing .600/.667/1.200 in five games. The junior recorded 12 hits, three doubles, three home runs and 10 RBIs while earning three walks and one hit by pitch.
  • Austin Kretzschmar earned his first conference honor of the season as he was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll after slashing .550/.609/1.100. Kretzschmar hit three home runs and chipped in nine RBIs while earning three walks.
  • Last season the Hoyas swept the Huskies at Shirley Povich field. GU took the series with scores of 13-2, 14-13 and 6-5. 
 
ABOUT NO. 15 UCONN
  • The Huskies come into the weekend with a 27-10 record after going 1-1 during the week. UConn dropped a contest to Northeastern 12-3 on Tuesday but bounced back and run ruled No. 20 Boston College on Wednesday, 12-1.
  • Luke Broadhurst leads the Huskies at the plate slashing .368/.487/.675. Broadhurst is second on the team in home runs with nine. Ben Huber leads the team in doubles this season with 17 thus far.
  • On the mound, UConn is led by Zach Fogell who boasts a 4-0 record and a 2.45 ERA in 22 innings of work. Fogell has 29 strikeouts and only six earned runs this season.
  • Ian Cooke, the BIG EAST Preseason Pitcher of the Year is 3-2 this season with a 4.81 ERA in 43 innings of work. Cooke leads the Huskies in strikeouts with 49 this season in eight games started.

Georgetown will be back in action on Wednesday, April 26 as the Hoyas host Maryland in a midweek contest. First pitch is slated for 6:30 p.m. at the Washington Nationals Youth Academy.
