Hoyas Close Out Road Slate at St. John’s

WASHINGTON – Georgetown University's men's lacrosse team wraps up the road portion of its 2023 regular season with a BIG EAST game at St. John's on Saturday at 1 p.m. in Queens, New York. The No. 8/9 Hoyas look to remain undefeated in league play while the Red Storm are eyeing their first win of the season.

About Georgetown
  • The Hoyas are 8-3 on the year and 3-0 in BIG EAST play following a 15-14 overtime win at Marquette on Saturday and a 23-7 win at Loyola in the nonconference finale on Tuesday.
  • Against Loyola, 12 different Hoyas scored goals while 14 players recorded a point on the night. Tucker Dordevic led the way with five goals while Nicky Solomon added four goals and an assist.
  • Graham Bundy Jr. and Jacob Kelly both had two goals and three assists, Brian Minicus scored two goals to go with an assist and Declan McDermott found the back of the cage twice.
  • TJ Haley tallied two assists to set the Georgetown career record with 95, passing all-time Hoya standout Greg McCavera ('99).
  • James Reilly won 16 of 22 (.727) faceoffs and collected 10 ground balls. He became just the ninth player in NCAA Division I history to reach 500 career ground balls.
  • In goal, Danny Hincks (2-3) picked up the win behind eight saves on the night.
  • Dordevic leads the Hoyas with 44 points (38G, 6A) while Minicus has 34 (20G, 14A), Kelly adds 29 (14G, 15A) and Bundy has 28 (21G, 7A). Solomon is good for 20 (14G, 6A), McDermott has 18 (14G, 4A), Haley has tallied 16 assists and Patrick Crogan adds 13 points (9G, 4A).
  • Reilly has won 158-of-272 (.580) faceoffs while collecting 113 ground balls. He has hauled in at least 10 ground balls in eight of Georgetown's 11 games this season.
  • Defensively, Will Bowen has been credited with 22 caused turnovers to lead the BIG EAST with 2.0 a game. Wallace Halpert adds 16 and Will Tominovich chips in 14.
  • In goal, Hincks is 2-3 on the year with an 11.01 goals-against average to go with a .520 save percentage and 52 saves. Michael Scharfenberger has posted a 6-0 record with a 10.95 GAA to go with a .432 save percentage and 54 total saves.
  • As a team, Georgetown leads the nation in man-up offense, converting at a .632 clip. The Hoyas are also top-10 nationally in ground balls per game (second overall, 39.82), clearing (second overall, .922) and fewest turnovers (fifth overall, 14.27).
Scouting St. John's
  • The Red Storm is 0-12 on the year and 0-3 in league play, coming off of a hard-fought 12-10 setback against 10th-ranked Denver on Saturday.
  • Brian Kelly leads SJU with 38 points (22G, 16A) while Connor Kalmus adds 21 points (19G, 2A).
  • The two main faceoff specialists for St. John's are John Mavlios at 35-138 (.254) and Jake Oemcke at 34-84 (.405) on the season.
  • On the defensive end, Gavin Legg has been credited with 17 caused turnovers and 26 ground balls.
  • In goal, Kyle Munson has started 11 games for St. John's and owns a 15.06 GAA and a .480 save percentage to go with 141 saves on the year.

  • The Hoyas and Red Storm have played 21 times with Georgetown owning an 18-3 series advantage.
  • Georgetown won the last meeting, a 23-6 victory on the Hilltop in 2022, and has won the last six showdowns.
