Hoyas Face Maryland Wednesday

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University baseball team will host the Maryland Terrapins on Wednesday evening in a midweek matchup. First pitch is slated for 6:30 p.m. at the Washington Nationals Youth Academy.

ABOUT THE HOYAS
  • The Hoyas are currently 23-18 after going 2-2 last week. GU dominated Mount St. Mary's last Wednesday by a score of 19-2. Over the weekend, Georgetown and UConn faced off in a conference battle and the then-No. 15 Huskies took two of the three games. GU was able to win game three of the series 6-2 marking the first time the Hoyas have beaten a ranked team on the road since 2016 when the Hoyas downed No. 15 FAU.
  • Owen Carapellotti was fantastic this week for the Blue & Gray slashing .471/.526/.941 in four games. The sophomore had eight hits, eight runs scored, eight RBIs, two home runs and a triple. Carapellotti earned BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll for his performances for the first time this season.
  • Collin Garner and Jake Bloss were stout on the mound for GU last week. Garner went six innings and allowed zero earned runs en route to his first win of the season against Mount St. Mary's. Bloss pitched five innings against UConn in game two on Saturday and struck out six picking up his fifth win of the season.
  • In the last meeting between the two sides, Georgetown captured its first win against Maryland since 2003 by downing the Terrapins 10-9 in 10 innings. Ubaldo Lopez led the Hoyas with two home runs in the contest.
 
ABOUT MARYLAND
  • Maryland enters Wednesday's contest with a 25-15 record after picking up two out of three games against the Purdue Boilermakers this past weekend. UMD will play at UMBC tonight before facing GU tomorrow.
  • Nick Lorusso leads the Terps at the plate with a .367 average on the season. Lorusso has 62 hits this season with 14 doubles and 15 home runs. He has a slugging percentage of .728 and an on base percentage of .442 with 66 RBIs on the season.
  • Matt Shaw is second on the team in home runs with 14 so far this season. He is batting .335 with 53 hits on the season.
  • On the mound, Jason Savacool leads the Terps with a 4-4 record and an ERA of 3.75. Savacool has pitched 60 innings this season and struck out 59 batters along the way.
