Hoyas Face Xavier in Final Conference Series

WASHINGTON – The Georgetown University baseball team will face the Xavier Musketeers in a three-game series. Game one is slated for tomorrow, May 18 with the first pitch coming at 3 p.m. at Hayden Field in Cincinnati, Ohio. This is the final series of the regular season before the conference championships begin next week.
 
GAMEDAY INFORMATION  
ABOUT THE HOYAS
  • The Hoyas are currently 27-24 after dropping a midweek contest to Cincinnati 10-6 yesterday. Last week, the Hoyas went 2-0 as they run ruled the University of Maryland Eastern Shore on Tuesday 13-3 and then defeated George Washington 17-1 on Wednesday.
  • Ubaldo Lopez leads the Hoyas at the plate this season slashing .352/.485/.721. Lopez is currently second in program history with 37 career home runs and needs one more to tie the record of 38 that was set by Sean Lamont between 2008-11. Lopez earned BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll for his performances in last week's games.
  • Jake Hyde and Michael Eze round out the Hoyas batting above .300 as Hyde is slashing .320/.388/.600 and Eze is slashing .306/.426/.515 with 17 stolen bases on the season.
  • On the mound, Jake Bloss and Andrew Williams lead the way for the Blue & Gray notching a combined 117.2 innings on the mound this season. Bloss boasts an ERA of 2.25 with a 6-4 record and Williams has a 4.77 ERA with a 3-4 record.
 
ABOUT XAVIER
  • The Musketeers come into the series with a 33-20 record after downing Michigan yesterday 14-2 in a midweek contest. Over the weekend, Xavier took the series against St. John's 2-1 winning games two and three 4-2 and 5-1, respectively.
  • Matt McCormick leads the Musketeers at the plate slashing .332/.444/.599 this season. McCormick leads the team in home runs with 13 and is second on the team in doubles with 11.
  • On the base path, Andrew Walker has been a consistent threat for the Musketeers with a 23-26 mark on stolen base attempts.
  • On the mound, Justin Loer leads Xavier with a 2.08 ERA and a 5-2 record in 47.2 innings of work. Ethan Bosacker is 6-3 on the mound and Brant Alazaus has a 7-3 record.
 
 
UP NEXT
Georgetown is fighting to advance to postseason play for the second-consecutive year this weekend. If the Hoyas qualify for the BIG EAST Championships, they will stay in Ohio and make the short drive over to Prasco Park in Mason, Ohio for the games.
